Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your antenna.

1. Choosing an Installation Location

  • For optimal reception, select a location that is as high as possible and free from obstructions such as buildings, trees, or metal structures.
  • Ensure the location allows for safe and secure mounting.
  • Consider the length of the provided 7.5-meter coaxial cable when choosing a location relative to your receiver.

2. Mounting the Antenna

  1. Assemble the mounting bracket components. The bracket is designed for pole or wall mounting.
  2. Securely attach the mounting bracket to your chosen surface (e.g., mast, wall) using appropriate fasteners (not included, unless part of the bracket kit).
  3. Attach the antenna to the mounting bracket, ensuring it is vertical for optimal omni-directional performance.
  4. Tighten all connections to prevent movement due to wind or other environmental factors.

3. Connecting the Coaxial Cable

  1. Connect one end of the provided 7.5-meter coaxial cable to the SMA connector at the base of the antenna. Hand-tighten the connector until snug.
  2. Route the coaxial cable from the antenna to your VHF Airband receiver. Ensure the cable is not kinked, pinched, or subjected to excessive strain. Use cable ties or clips to secure the cable along its path.
  3. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable (SMA connector) to the antenna input port on your VHF Airband receiver.

Operating Instructions

Once the antenna is installed and connected to your receiver:

  1. Power on your VHF Airband receiver.
  2. Tune your receiver to the desired Airband frequencies (118-136 MHz).
  3. Adjust your receiver's settings (e.g., squelch, volume) as needed for clear reception.
  4. The omni-directional design of this antenna means it receives signals from all directions, eliminating the need for manual aiming.

Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the antenna, mounting bracket, and coaxial cable for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.
  • Cleaning: If the antenna becomes dirty, gently wipe it with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Cable Integrity: Ensure the coaxial cable remains securely connected and free from damage. Replace if any fraying or cuts are observed.
  • Weather Protection: While designed for outdoor use and tested in extreme weather, ensure all connections are tight to prevent water ingress.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Poor or No Reception
  • Antenna not properly connected.
  • Antenna location obstructed.
  • Damaged coaxial cable.
  • Receiver malfunction.
  • Check all cable connections to the antenna and receiver.
