2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure the incubator is placed on a stable, level surface away from direct sunlight, drafts, or extreme temperature fluctuations.
  • Do not operate the incubator with a damaged power cord or plug.
  • Keep the incubator away from water sources and do not immerse any part of the unit in water.
  • Unplug the unit from the power outlet before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

3. Product Components

The Borotto Lumia 56 incubator consists of the following main components:

  • Transparent Lid: Allows observation of the incubation process.
  • Base Unit: Houses the heating element, fan, and water trays.
  • Egg Trays: Universal design to hold various egg sizes.
  • Control Panel: For temperature display and adjustments.
  • Automatic Egg Turning System: Integrated mechanism for gentle egg rotation.

4. Setup Instructions

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Placement: Position the incubator on a flat, stable surface in a room with a consistent ambient temperature, ideally between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F). Avoid areas with direct sunlight, drafts, or significant temperature fluctuations.
  3. Assembly: Place the egg trays into the base unit. Ensure the transparent lid fits securely on top of the base.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet. The display will illuminate, showing the current temperature.
  5. Initial Test Run: Allow the incubator to run for at least 24 hours without eggs to stabilize the internal temperature and humidity. This allows you to verify proper operation before placing eggs.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Temperature Control

The Borotto Lumia 56 incubator features an advanced control system that maintains a constant temperature with a precision of 0.1°C. The current temperature is displayed on the unit's digital screen. No manual temperature adjustment is typically required for standard poultry eggs, as the unit is pre-calibrated for optimal hatching conditions.

5.2 Humidity Control

Humidity is crucial for successful hatching. The incubator allows for two methods of humidity maintenance:

  • Manual Water Addition: Add water to the built-in trays located at the bottom of the incubator. Use distilled water to prevent mineral buildup. Refill as needed, typically daily, without opening the lid excessively.
  • Optional SIRIO Humidity Pump: For automatic humidity control, connect the optional SIRIO Humidity Pump (sold separately). This pump automatically draws water from an external source (e.g., a 2-liter bottle), maintaining stable relative humidity throughout the incubation process. When using the SIRIO pump, the room's relative humidity should be between 20%–80%. Without the pump, aim for 50%–75% room humidity.

5.3 Egg Placement and Turning

The universal egg tray system is designed to hold various egg types vertically. The incubator can accommodate up to 56 large eggs (such as goose or chicken eggs) or up to 224 small eggs (such as partridge or quail eggs). Place eggs carefully into the designated slots in the trays.

The automatic egg turning system rotates the eggs left to right in continuous cycles, approximately once every hour. This mimics natural incubation behavior and is essential for proper embryonic development. Very large eggs may not fit in the turner and might require manual turning or removal from the turning mechanism.

5.4 Hatching Process

The transparent, heat-resistant lid allows for easy monitoring of the hatching process without disturbing the internal environment. The Lumia 56 is suitable for hatching eggs from chickens, pheasants, guinea fowl, quail, partridges, ducks, and certain species of goose, turkey, and peafowl.

Towards the end of the incubation period (typically the last 3 days), it is recommended to stop the automatic turning function and increase humidity slightly to aid in hatching. Newly hatched chicks should remain in the incubator until they are dry and fluffy before being moved to a brooder.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each hatch, unplug the incubator and allow it to cool. Clean all surfaces with a mild disinfectant solution and a soft cloth. Ensure all egg debris, down, and dust are removed.
  • Lid Cleaning: The transparent lid is double-walled and cannot be disassembled. Clean it carefully to remove any down or debris that may accumulate between the layers.
  • Water Trays: Regularly clean the water trays to prevent algae or bacterial growth. Use a small brush if necessary to remove any residue.
  • Storage: When not in use, ensure the incubator is clean and dry. Store it in its original packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Power/Display Off: Check the power cord connection and the electrical outlet. Ensure the power switch (if present) is in the 'ON' position.
  • Temperature Fluctuations: Verify the incubator is placed in a stable environment away from drafts or direct heat sources. Ensure the lid is securely closed.
  • Humidity Too Low: Check water levels in the trays. If using the SIRIO pump, ensure the external water source is not empty and the pump is functioning correctly. Increase room humidity if necessary.
  • Eggs Not Turning: Ensure the egg turning mechanism is properly engaged and not obstructed. Check for any loose connections if the turning motor is separate.
  • Poor Hatch Rates: This can be due to many factors including egg quality, incorrect temperature/humidity, or improper egg turning. Review all operating steps and ensure optimal conditions are maintained. Consult external resources for specific incubation requirements for your egg type.
