2. Safety Information

To reduce the risk of electrical shock, fire, or personal injury, always follow these basic safety precautions:

  • Read all instructions: Ensure you understand all instructions before installation and operation.
  • Electrical Disconnection: Before starting installation or performing any maintenance, disconnect power by turning off the circuit breakers to the fan's electrical box.
  • Qualified Electrician: All electrical wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician and comply with all local and national electrical codes.
  • Mounting Support: The outlet box and support structure must be securely mounted and capable of supporting a minimum of 35 lbs (15.9 kg). Use only UL/ETL listed outlet boxes marked "FOR FAN SUPPORT."
  • Blade Clearance: Ensure there is adequate clearance from the blades to any walls or obstructions. A minimum of 7 feet (2.1 meters) from the floor to the blade trailing edge is recommended.
  • Indoor Use Only: This fan is rated for indoor use only. Do not install in outdoor or damp locations.
  • Remote Control Batteries: Keep batteries out of reach of children. Dispose of used batteries properly.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your ceiling fan. It is recommended to have two people for installation.

4.1 Prepare for Installation

  • Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  • Ensure the mounting location is suitable for a ceiling fan and can support the fan's weight.
  • Unpack all components and lay them out on a soft, clean surface to prevent scratches.

4.2 Install the Mounting Bracket

  • Attach the mounting bracket to the ceiling outlet box using the screws and washers provided. Ensure the bracket is securely fastened.
  • The included canopy supports a maximum ceiling slope of 20 degrees.

4.3 Assemble the Fan

  • Feed the electrical wires from the fan motor through the downrod.
  • Secure the downrod to the fan motor assembly.
  • Carefully lift the fan assembly and hang it from the mounting bracket.

4.4 Wiring the Fan

  • Connect the fan's electrical wires to the household wiring according to the wiring diagram provided in the separate wiring instructions (not included in this manual).
  • The remote control transmitter must be wired with the fan. Ensure the transmitter and its gold box trim are carefully placed within the ceiling box to avoid interference with the fan's balance. Improper placement can lead to the fan not hanging straight or running off-balance.
  • Note: This fan is designed for control solely via the included remote. It does not support separate wall switches for fan and light functions.

4.5 Attach Blades and Light Kit

  • Attach the three natural finish solid wood blades to the fan motor housing using the provided screws. Ensure all screws are tightened securely.
  • Connect the integrated LED light module to the fan's light wiring.
  • Secure the light module cover to the fan.

Your Casa Vieja Windspun ceiling fan is operated using the included full-function 5-speed remote control.

5.1 Remote Control Functions

  • Fan Speed: Use the speed buttons to cycle through 5 fan speeds (low to high).
  • Fan On/Off: Press the fan button to turn the fan on or off.
  • Light On/Off: Press the light button to turn the integrated LED light on or off.
  • Light Dimming: Hold the light button to dim or brighten the LED light.

5.2 Important Operational Notes

  • The fan and light functions are exclusively controlled by the remote. There is no provision for separate wall switch control for fan and light.
  • If the fan is running with the light off and power is cut at the wall switch (or circuit breaker), upon restoring power, only the light will turn on. The fan will not automatically resume its previous setting. You will need to use the remote to turn the fan back on.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ceiling fan.

  • Cleaning: Periodically dust the fan blades and motor housing with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Blade Cleaning: For the natural wood blades, use a dry cloth. Avoid moisture to prevent warping or damage to the wood.
  • Tighten Fasteners: Check all screws and fasteners on the fan and mounting hardware annually. Tighten any loose connections to prevent wobbling and noise.
  • Blade Balancing: If the fan wobbles excessively, ensure all blades are securely attached and that the remote transmitter box is not interfering with the fan's balance within the ceiling box. A balancing kit (often sold separately) can be used to correct minor wobbles.
