4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The AL01 multimeter requires standard batteries. Please refer to the battery compartment markings for the specific type and quantity (e.g., AA, AAA, 9V). To install or replace batteries:

  1. Ensure the multimeter is turned off and test leads are disconnected.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the rear of the unit.
  3. Unscrew the retaining screw(s) and remove the cover.
  4. Insert the batteries, observing correct polarity (+ and -).
  5. Replace the cover and secure with the screw(s).

4.2 Connecting Test Leads

For most measurements, connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the appropriate positive input jack (e.g., VΩHzCAPTemp for voltage/resistance, mAμA or A for current).

5. Operating Instructions

This section details how to perform common measurements with the AL01 multimeter.

5.1 Measuring AC/DC Voltage

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩHzCAPTemp jack.
  2. Turn the function switch to the V~ (AC Voltage) or V- (DC Voltage) position. The meter may auto-range.
  3. Connect the test probes in parallel across the circuit or component to be measured.
  4. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

5.2 Measuring AC/DC Current

Caution: Never connect the multimeter in parallel when measuring current. Always connect in series with the load.

  1. Determine the expected current range. For mA/μA, connect the red lead to the mAμA jack. For A, connect to the A jack. Black lead to COM.
  2. Turn the function switch to the A~ (AC Current) or A- (DC Current) position.
  3. Open the circuit where current is to be measured. Insert the multimeter in series with the circuit.
  4. Read the current value on the LCD display.

5.3 Measuring Resistance (Ω)

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩHzCAPTemp jack.
  2. Turn the function switch to the Ω position.
  3. Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized before measuring resistance.
  4. Connect the test probes across the component.
  5. Read the resistance value on the LCD display.

5.4 Measuring Inductance (L)

The AL01 features inductance measurement, useful for coils and transformers.

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM jack and the red test lead to the VΩHzCAPTemp jack.
  2. Turn the function switch to the L (Inductance) position.
  3. Ensure the inductor is isolated from any circuit and de-energized.
  4. Connect the test probes across the inductor terminals.
  5. Read the inductance value on the LCD display.

5.5 Other Functions

  • Capacitance (CAP): Measure capacitance of capacitors. Ensure capacitor is discharged before testing.
  • Frequency (Hz): Measure the frequency of AC signals.
  • Diode Test: Test the forward voltage drop of diodes.
  • Continuity Test: Audible beep for low resistance circuits.
  • Temperature (Temp): Requires a K-type thermocouple (not always included).

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the input jacks free of dust and debris.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 4.1. Remove batteries if the meter is not used for extended periods to prevent leakage.

6.3 Fuse Replacement

If the current measurement function stops working, the fuse may need replacement. Refer to the specifications for the correct fuse type and rating. Fuse replacement typically involves opening the back case, similar to battery replacement, but may require more caution.
