For 12.3" (313mm) Wheelbase Scale Crawlers

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the Pro-Line Racing Coyote Grande Clear Body, model PRO362500. This body is designed for 12.3" (313mm) wheelbase Class 2 and Class 3 scale crawlers. It features an SUV-inspired design with a pinched front end, dove-tailed rear, and wheel arches optimized for tire clearance up to 4.85" without trimming. Short overhangs contribute to improved approach and departure angles for crawling performance.

3.1 Preparation Steps:

  1. Inspect the Body: Carefully remove the clear body from its packaging and inspect for any manufacturing imperfections.
  2. Trim the Body: Using sharp hobby scissors or a body reamer, carefully trim the body along the molded cut lines. Pay close attention to wheel wells, front and rear bumpers, and body post holes.
  3. Wash the Body: Before painting, wash the inside of the body with mild soap and water to remove any mold release agents or oils. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely.
  4. Masking: Apply masking tape to areas you do not wish to paint, such as windows. Use liquid mask for intricate designs if desired.

3.2 Painting:

  • Use polycarbonate-specific (Lexan) paints.
  • Apply paint to the inside of the body for durability and a glossy finish.
  • Apply multiple thin coats rather than one thick coat to prevent runs and ensure even coverage.
  • Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next.

3.3 Mounting:

  • Once painted and fully dry, remove all masking.
  • Align the body with your 12.3" (313mm) wheelbase chassis.
  • Mark and drill body post holes if not already present.
  • Secure the body to the chassis using body clips.

4. Operating Considerations

When operating your RC crawler with the Coyote Grande body, ensure that the body is securely mounted to prevent detachment during use. While designed for durability, extreme impacts can cause damage. The body's design provides optimal clearance for tires up to 4.85 inches, enhancing crawling performance.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the body with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals that may damage the paint or polycarbonate material.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the body for cracks or damage, especially after rigorous use. Small cracks can often be repaired with polycarbonate-compatible adhesives or tape from the inside.
  • Storage: Store the body in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent material degradation and paint fading.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Body Not Fitting Chassis: Ensure your chassis has a 12.3" (313mm) wheelbase. Adjust body post height and position as needed. Some chassis may require minor modifications for optimal fit.
  • Paint Peeling/Flaking: This often occurs if the body was not properly cleaned before painting, or if non-polycarbonate paint was used. Ensure proper preparation and use appropriate paints.
  • Cracks Developing: Polycarbonate bodies are durable but not indestructible. Reinforce high-stress areas (e.g., body post holes, corners) with Shoo Goo or similar flexible adhesive from the inside to prevent cracks.
