Setup

1. Charging the Keyboard

Before initial use, fully charge the keyboard. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the keyboard's USB-C port and the other end to a power source (e.g., computer USB port, wall adapter). The keyboard has a 3500mAh battery for extended use.

2. System Compatibility Switch

Locate the system switch on the side or back of the keyboard. Slide it to either "MAC" for macOS devices or "WIN" for Windows devices to ensure proper key mapping and functionality.

3. Connecting the Keyboard (Tri-Mode)

The CoolKiller Balloon 84 supports three connection modes:

• USB-C Wired Connection: Connect the keyboard directly to your device using the provided USB-C cable. The keyboard will be powered and connected instantly.
• 2.4GHz Wireless Connection:
  1. Locate the 2.4GHz USB receiver, typically stored in the keyboard's receiver storage case.
  2. Plug the receiver into an available USB port on your computer.
  3. Switch the keyboard to 2.4GHz mode (often indicated by a specific key combination like Fn+4). The keyboard should automatically connect.
• Bluetooth 5.1 Wireless Connection:
  1. Ensure the keyboard is powered on and in Bluetooth pairing mode (often activated by Fn+1, Fn+2, or Fn+3 to select a Bluetooth channel). The indicator light will typically blink during pairing.
  2. On your device (computer, tablet, smartphone), go to Bluetooth settings and search for "CoolKiller Balloon 84" or a similar name.
  3. Select the keyboard to pair. The indicator light will become solid once connected.
  4. You can pair up to three Bluetooth devices and switch between them using Fn+1/2/3.

Operating Instructions

Backlight Control

The keyboard features a customizable white LED backlight. You can adjust its settings using the following key combinations:

• Change Backlight Modes: Press Fn + \ to cycle through various white LED lighting effects.
• Turn Backlight On/Off: Press Fn + Enter to toggle the backlight on or off.
• Adjust Brightness: Use Fn + F5 to decrease brightness and Fn + F6 to increase brightness.

Multimedia Keys (Mac Mode)

When the keyboard is set to Mac mode, the function keys (F1-F12) provide quick access to multimedia and system controls:

Maintenance

Cleaning the Keyboard

Due to its transparent design, dust and debris may be more visible. Regularly clean your keyboard to maintain its appearance and functionality:

• Use a can of compressed air to remove dust and crumbs from between the keycaps.
• Wipe the keycaps and keyboard surface with a soft, lint-free cloth, slightly dampened with water or a mild electronics cleaner. Avoid excessive moisture.
• For deeper cleaning, you may remove keycaps using the provided keycap puller.

Switch and Keycap Replacement

The CoolKiller Balloon 84 features hot-swappable switches, allowing you to change switches without soldering. Use the provided keycap & switch puller for replacement:

1. Carefully use the keycap puller to remove the desired keycap.
2. Use the switch puller to gently grasp the switch and pull it straight up to remove it from the PCB.
3. Align the pins of the new 3-pin or 5-pin switch with the holes on the PCB and press it down firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure pins are not bent.
4. Place the new keycap onto the switch stem and press down until secure.

Troubleshooting

• Keyboard not connecting wirelessly:
  • Ensure the keyboard is fully charged.
  • Verify the system switch (MAC/WIN) is set correctly for your device.
  • For 2.4GHz, ensure the USB receiver is securely plugged in and the keyboard is in 2.4GHz mode (Fn+4).
  • For Bluetooth, ensure the keyboard is in pairing mode (Fn+1/2/3) and visible in your device's Bluetooth settings. Try forgetting the device on your computer and re-pairing.
  • If issues persist, try connecting via USB-C cable to confirm basic functionality.
• Backlight not working or dim:
  • Ensure the backlight is turned on (Fn+Enter).
  • Adjust brightness using Fn+F5 (dim) and Fn+F6 (bright).
  • Check battery level; low battery can affect backlight performance.
• Keys not responding or double-typing:
  • Check for debris under the keycap or switch. Clean as per maintenance instructions.
  • If a specific switch is faulty, consider replacing it using the hot-swappable feature.
  • Ensure the keyboard firmware is up to date (check the official CoolKiller website for drivers/software).
