4. Setup

4.1 Wired Connection

  1. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the keyboard's USB-C port.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to an available USB port on your computer.
  3. The keyboard will be automatically recognized and ready for use.

4.2 2.4GHz Wireless Connection

  1. Locate the 2.4GHz USB receiver, usually stored in a compartment on the underside of the keyboard.
  2. Plug the USB receiver into an available USB port on your computer.
  3. Switch the keyboard's mode switch (located on the back or side) to the 2.4G wireless position.
  4. The keyboard should connect automatically.

4.3 Bluetooth Connection

  1. Switch the keyboard's mode switch to the Bluetooth position.
  2. Press and hold the Function (Fn) key along with one of the Bluetooth channel keys (e.g., Fn + 1, Fn + 2, or Fn + 3) for 3-5 seconds until the indicator light flashes rapidly, indicating pairing mode.
  3. On your device (computer, tablet, smartphone), open Bluetooth settings and search for new devices.
  4. Select "GATERON iG 98" (or similar name) from the list of available devices to pair.
  5. Once paired, the indicator light will stop flashing and remain solid.

4.4 Charging

Connect the USB-C cable to the keyboard and a power source (computer USB port or USB wall adapter). The keyboard features a Lithium Ion battery (included). An indicator light will typically show charging status and turn off when fully charged.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Switching Connection Modes

Use the physical switch on the keyboard to toggle between Wired, 2.4GHz Wireless, and Bluetooth modes. For Bluetooth, use Fn + 1/2/3 to switch between paired devices.

5.2 RGB Lighting Control

The keyboard offers customizable RGB backlighting. Specific key combinations (often Fn + arrow keys or dedicated lighting keys) are used to change lighting modes, brightness, speed, and color. Refer to the quick guide card included with your keyboard for detailed shortcuts.

5.3 Volume Knob

The integrated volume knob allows for quick and convenient adjustment of audio output. Rotate the knob to increase or decrease volume. Press the knob to mute or unmute audio.

5.4 N-Key Rollover

The keyboard supports N-key rollover, meaning all key presses are registered accurately, even when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously. This is beneficial for fast typing and gaming.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Keyboard

  • Disconnect the keyboard from all power sources and devices.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution to wipe down the keycaps and casing.
  • For dust and debris between keycaps, use compressed air or a small brush.
  • Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the keyboard.

6.2 Replacing Switches and Keycaps

The GATERON iG 98 keyboard is hot-swappable, allowing for easy replacement of switches without soldering.

  1. Removing Keycaps: Use the provided keycap puller to gently pull keycaps straight up.
  2. Removing Switches: Use the provided switch puller to grasp the top and bottom clips of the switch and gently pull it straight up.
  3. Installing Switches: Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB. Gently press the switch down until it clicks into place. Ensure pins are not bent.
  4. Installing Keycaps: Align the keycap with the switch stem and press down firmly until it is seated.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Keyboard Not Responding

  • Wired Mode: Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • 2.4GHz Wireless Mode: Ensure the USB receiver is properly inserted and the keyboard is switched to 2.4G mode. Try re-pairing by unplugging and re-plugging the receiver.
  • Bluetooth Mode: Ensure the keyboard is in Bluetooth mode and correctly paired with your device. Try re-pairing the device (Fn + 1/2/3 to enter pairing mode). Check if the keyboard battery is low.
  • All Modes: Restart your computer.

7.2 Keys Not Registering

  • Remove the keycap and switch for the affected key.
  • Inspect the switch pins for any bends or damage. Straighten bent pins carefully.
  • Re-insert the switch firmly into the socket.
  • Test the key. If the issue persists, the switch may need to be replaced.

7.3 RGB Lighting Not Working

  • Ensure the keyboard is powered on.
  • Check the lighting control shortcuts (Fn + relevant keys) to ensure lighting is not turned off or set to minimum brightness.
  • If using software, ensure it is running and correctly configured.
