Waveshare Solar Power Manager (D)

Waveshare Solar Power Manager Module (D) Instruction Manual

Model: Solar Power Manager (D)

1. Product Overview

The Waveshare Solar Power Manager Module (D) is a compact and efficient solar charge controller designed for various low-power applications. It facilitates the charging of 3.7V rechargeable Li-ion batteries using either a 6V-24V solar panel or a Type-C power adapter. The module provides a stable 5V/3A regulated output, making it suitable for powering microcontrollers, development boards, and IoT devices.

Equipped with MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) functionality, it optimizes the power extraction from solar panels under varying light conditions. It also integrates multiple protection circuits to ensure safe and reliable operation, including safeguards against over-charge, over-discharge, overheat, and over-current conditions.

  8. BATT capacity indicators: LEDs indicating battery charge level.
  9. Solar panel charging indicators: LEDs indicating solar charging status.
  10. Anti-reverse MOS tube: Prevents reverse battery connection damage.

4.2 Connection Procedure

  1. Connect Battery: Connect a 3.7V rechargeable Li-ion battery to the BATT interfaces (4). Ensure correct polarity. The module does not include a battery holder, so batteries must be purchased separately.
  2. Connect Solar Panel (Optional): Connect a 6V-24V solar panel to the Solar panel charging input (1). The module supports self-adaptive input voltage.
  3. Connect Type-C Power Adapter (Optional): Alternatively, or in addition to solar, connect a 5V Type-C power adapter to the Type-C charging input (2) for battery charging.
  4. Connect Load: Connect your 5V device to the Power output (3) screw terminal. Ensure the device's current draw does not exceed 3A.

Important: Always ensure correct polarity for all connections to prevent damage to the module and connected devices.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Charging the Battery

  • Solar Charging: When a solar panel is connected and exposed to sufficient sunlight, the module will automatically begin charging the connected 3.7V Li-ion battery. The "Charge" LED (part of Solar panel charging indicators, 9) will illuminate. Once the battery is fully charged, the "Done" LED will light up.
  • Type-C Charging: Connect a 5V Type-C power adapter to the Type-C input (2). The module will charge the battery. The BATT capacity indicators (8) will show the charging progress.

5.2 Powering External Devices

  • The module provides a regulated 5V/3A output via the screw terminal (3). Connect your 5V device to this output.
  • The Type-C port (2) can also function as a 5V output for external devices when not used for charging.

5.3 LED Indicators

  • BATT Capacity Indicators (8): These LEDs light up when the battery is charging or under load. They will turn off approximately 30 seconds after the load is removed.
  • Solar Panel Charging Indicators (9):
    • Charge: Illuminates when the solar panel is actively charging the battery.
    • Done: Illuminates when the battery is fully charged by the solar panel.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Keep the module clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid using liquids or abrasive cleaners.
  • Connections: Periodically check all screw terminal connections to ensure they are secure. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or damage.
  • Environment: Operate the module within its specified temperature range. Avoid exposure to extreme heat, cold, or high humidity.
  • Battery Health: If using rechargeable batteries, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for battery care to maximize lifespan.
