2. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance of your new thermostat. Please follow these steps carefully. If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified electrician.

2.1 Compatibility Check

The thermostat is compatible with most 24VAC HVAC systems. It works with 95% of systems and includes a C-wire power adapter if your existing setup lacks a common wire.

  • Compatible Systems: Furnace, Air Conditioner (2H/2C), Heat Pump (2H/2C + Level 2 AUX), Boiler, PTAC, Fan Coil (3 Fan Speeds), Cooling Only System, Heating Only System.
  • Incompatible Systems: High voltage systems (95V-220V), systems with stranded wires, or systems labeled 110V/120V.

2.2 Wiring and Mounting

  1. Power Off: Before beginning, turn off the power to your HVAC system at the circuit breaker.

  3. Install Backplate: Mount the new thermostat's backplate to the wall using the provided screws.
  4. Connect Wires: Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new backplate. Refer to the wiring diagrams provided in the manual. The thermostat supports 10 terminals for various configurations.
  5. C-Wire Adapter (if needed): If your system does not have a C-wire, use the included C-wire power adapter as per the instructions.
  6. Attach Thermostat: Snap the thermostat unit onto the mounted backplate.
  7. Power On: Restore power to your HVAC system at the circuit breaker.

3. Operating Instructions

The AVATTO Smart Thermostat features a user-friendly interface with a touch knob and color LCD screen for easy operation.

3.1 Working Modes

The thermostat offers 5 working modes to optimize energy usage and comfort:

  • System Off: Turns off the HVAC system.
  • Emergency Heating: Provides auxiliary heating when the primary heat source is unavailable.
  • Cooling Only: Activates only the cooling function.
  • Heating Only: Activates only the heating function.
  • System Auto: Automatically switches between heating and cooling based on programmed settings and current temperature.

3.2 Programmable Settings

You can program up to 4 different temperature ranges for each day of the week (5+2/6+1/7 days programming). This allows for automated temperature adjustments based on your schedule, saving energy and ensuring comfort.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and efficient operation of your AVATTO Smart Thermostat, regular maintenance is recommended.

  • Filter Cleaning Reminder: The thermostat screen displays a filter cleaning reminder. It is important to clean or replace your HVAC system's air filter regularly as indicated to maintain air quality and system efficiency.
  • General Cleaning: Wipe the thermostat screen and body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Software Updates: Keep the Smart Life or Tuya Smart App updated to ensure your thermostat has the latest features and security patches.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your thermostat, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/Display:
    • Ensure the power to your HVAC system is on at the circuit breaker.
    • Verify all wiring connections are secure and correct according to the installation guide.
    • Check if the C-wire adapter is properly installed if your system requires it.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues:
    • Confirm your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz. The thermostat does not support 5GHz networks.
    • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
    • Ensure the thermostat is within range of your Wi-Fi router.
    • Re-pair the thermostat with the Smart Life/Tuya Smart App.
  • Inaccurate Temperature Readings:
    • Ensure the thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources that could affect its readings.
    • Check the temperature calibration setting in the thermostat's menu or app.
  • System Not Responding to Commands:
    • Verify the correct system mode (Heat, Cool, Auto) is selected.
