5. Installation Instructions

For a comprehensive visual guide, please refer to the official installation video below. The following steps outline the process:

Video 1: JUBEST Pocket Door Frame Kit Installation Guide. This video provides a step-by-step visual walkthrough of the entire installation process.

Step 1: Construct Rough Opening

Prepare the wall framing for the pocket door. Ensure the rough opening meets the minimum height of 84 1/2" (2.14m) and a width of 2X door width plus 1" (25mm). Verify the opening is level and plumb.

Step 2: Measure for Frame Header End Brackets

Set a nail at the door height plus 3/4" (19mm) or 1-1/2" (38mm) from the sub-floor, depending on your specific door height and desired gap. This marks the position for the header.

Step 3: Snap a Chalk Line

Snap a chalk line on the floor to indicate the position of the bottom track and split studs. This ensures proper alignment of the frame.

Step 4: Attach Frame Header to Rough Studs

Secure the frame header to the rough studs using appropriate fasteners. Ensure it is level and firmly attached. If using a non-standard door size, refer to the cutting instructions section.

Step 5: Attach Split Steel Studs

Attach the split steel studs to the header and floor chalk line. These studs provide the structural integrity for the pocket. Ensure they are plumb and evenly spaced.

Step 6: Insert Ball Bearing Hanger Wheel Assembly, Soft Close Actuators, and Triggers into Track

Carefully insert the ball bearing hanger wheel assembly, soft-close actuators, and triggers into the aluminum track. Ensure the flat side of the hanger faces inward. Position hangers alternately for even weight distribution. Adjust the soft-close mechanism as needed.

Step 7: Apply Desired Wall Material

Once the frame is securely installed, apply your desired wall material (e.g., drywall). Use self-tapping drywall screws to secure the material to the frame. Be mindful of screw length to avoid interfering with the door's movement.

Figure 5: The clever design allows for direct replacement of parts after drywall installation without removal.

Step 8: Seal All Edges

Seal all edges of the wall material around the door opening to ensure a clean finish and prevent drafts.

Step 9: Mount Door Plates and Mount Door

Attach the door mounting plates to the top edge of your door, ensuring they are centered and securely fastened. Then, carefully lift and mount the door onto the hanger wheels in the track. Adjust the door height as needed using the adjustment mechanism on the hangers.

Step 10: Install Finished Jambs, Split Headers, and Casing

Install the finished jambs, split headers, and casing around the door opening. Use self-tapping finish trim screws. Ensure a 3/16" (5mm) gap between the door and the jamb for smooth operation.

Step 11: Fasten Door Guides

Fasten the door guides to the floor, ensuring they align with the bottom edge of the door and maintain a 3/16" (5mm) gap for smooth movement.

Cutting Instructions for Header (if needed)

The header can be cut to accommodate different door widths. For a 32" door, no cutting is typically needed as the kit is designed for this size. For other standard door sizes (e.g., 24", 28", 30"), cutting lines are marked on the header. For custom door sizes, measure from the fixed bracket end of the header board: 2 times the door width, plus 1 inch. Remove the adjustable end bracket, cut the wood header ONLY at the marked line, then turn the header assembly over and cut the metal track 1 3/8" shorter. Replace the adjustable end bracket on the new cut end of the header. Repeat for the header trim board, cutting it at the door width plus 7/8" from the fixed bracket end.

6. Operating Instructions

Your JUBEST Pocket Door Frame Kit features a two-way soft-close mechanism for smooth and quiet operation. The soft-close mechanism engages automatically when the door approaches the fully open or fully closed position, gently slowing it down to prevent slamming.

Video 2: Demonstration of the JUBEST pocket door frame soft-close mechanism in action.

To operate the door, simply push or pull it gently. The soft-close mechanism will engage automatically near the end of its travel in both directions. Avoid forcing the door, as this can damage the mechanism.

7. Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Keep the track free of dust and debris. Use a soft cloth or vacuum cleaner to remove any buildup that could impede smooth operation.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a silicone-based lubricant to the hanger wheels and track to ensure continued smooth and quiet sliding. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
  • Check Fasteners: Periodically inspect all screws and fasteners to ensure they are tight. Loose fasteners can affect door alignment and operation.
  • Soft-Close Mechanism: If the soft-close mechanism is not engaging properly, check the triggers and actuators for any obstructions or misalignment. Ensure the set screws are tightened correctly.
  • Part Replacement: The design allows for easy replacement of parts directly after the pocket door kit is installed without removing the drywall. Refer to the installation video for guidance on accessing and replacing components.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Door not sliding smoothly: Check the track for debris. Ensure the hanger wheels are clean and lubricated. Verify that the door guides are properly aligned and not too tight.
  • Soft-close not engaging: Inspect the soft-close triggers and actuators. Ensure they are positioned correctly to make contact with the door. Check if the set screws on the soft-close mechanism are securely tightened.
  • Door rubbing against frame: This could indicate misalignment. Recheck the plumb and level of the frame and door. Adjust the door height using the hanger mechanism if necessary. Ensure the 3/16" (5mm) gap is maintained.
  • Door feels loose or wobbly: Check all frame connections and fasteners for tightness. Ensure the split steel studs are securely attached.
