  • Do not install in areas with high humidity, extreme temperatures, or excessive dust.
  • Ensure proper ventilation when using gas appliances.
  • Test the alarm regularly as instructed in this manual.
  • In case of an alarm, immediately evacuate the area and contact emergency services.
  • This alarm operates on 12V DC power. Ensure correct wiring to avoid damage or malfunction.

5. Installation

5.1 Choosing an Installation Location

For optimal performance, install the alarm in a central location within your RV, away from direct heat sources, vents, windows, and areas prone to high humidity or dust. Ensure it is mounted at a height where both CO and propane can be detected effectively. Propane is heavier than air and tends to settle low, while CO mixes with air. A good compromise is typically 18-24 inches from the floor.

5.2 Wiring Instructions (12V DC Hardwired)

The alarm operates on a 12V DC power supply. Use the provided connector for a secure and safe connection.

  1. Strip the Wires: Carefully strip approximately 1/2 inch (12mm) of insulation from the ends of the alarm's power wires and your RV's 12V DC power wires.
  2. Lift Connector Handle: Lift the orange handle on the provided connector upwards.
  3. Connect Wires: Insert the stripped red wire from the alarm into the "+" terminal of the connector and the stripped black wire into the "-" terminal. Similarly, connect your RV's 12V DC positive wire to the "+" terminal and the negative wire to the "-" terminal.
  4. Secure Connection: Push the orange handle down to secure the wires firmly in place.

5.3 Mounting Options

You can choose between screw mounting or Velcro mounting.

Screw Mounting:

  1. Install Screws: Mark the desired mounting location. Drill pilot holes and insert the expansion tubes. Install the screws, leaving a small gap (approx. 3.5 inches / 89mm apart) for the alarm to hang.
  2. Connect Wiring: Complete the wiring as described in Section 5.2.
  3. Mount Alarm: Align the alarm's mounting slots with the installed screws and slide the alarm down to secure it.

Velcro Mounting:

  1. Prepare Surface: Ensure the mounting surface is clean and dry.
  2. Attach Velcro: Apply the adhesive Velcro strips to the back of the alarm and the desired mounting location on the wall.
  3. Mount Alarm: Press the alarm firmly onto the wall to secure it with the Velcro.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On

Once properly wired, the alarm will power on automatically. The display will illuminate, and the device will undergo a brief self-test sequence.

6.2 Display Information

The large LCD screen displays real-time readings for both Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Propane (LPG) gas concentrations. It also shows the current unit (PPM for CO, %LEL or PPM for Propane).

6.3 Button Functions

  • UNIT Button: Press this button to switch the display unit for propane gas between %LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) and PPM (Parts Per Million).
  • Backlight ON/OFF Button: Press this button to toggle the display backlight on or off.
  • Mute Button: Press this button to temporarily silence the audible alarm during an alert. The visual alarm (flashing red light) will continue until the gas concentration returns to safe levels.

6.4 Alarm Indications

When carbon monoxide or propane gas levels exceed safe thresholds:

  • An 85-decibel audible alarm will sound.
  • A flashing red indicator light will activate.
  • The display will show the elevated gas concentration.

ACTION: If the alarm sounds, immediately move to fresh air, ensure all gas appliances are turned off, and do not re-enter the area until the alarm has ceased and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Regular Testing

It is recommended to test your alarm weekly. Press and hold the "Mute" button (or designated test button if available) to initiate a self-test. The alarm should sound, and the lights should flash, indicating proper function.

7.2 Cleaning

Clean the exterior of the alarm regularly with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or spray directly onto the unit. Ensure no dust or debris obstructs the sensor openings.

7.3 Sensor Lifespan

Gas sensors have a limited lifespan. While this alarm is designed for durability, it is recommended to replace the unit every 5-7 years to ensure optimal detection capabilities. Refer to the product's manufacturing date for guidance.
