4. Operation

The Bugera PS1 features two primary controls: SOAK and LINE.

4.1 SOAK Control

The SOAK control knob adjusts the amount of attenuation applied to the signal sent to your physical speaker cabinet. Turning the knob clockwise reduces the volume, allowing you to push your amplifier's output section harder for desired tonal characteristics at lower listening levels. The scale indicates the percentage of power being attenuated, from 0% (full volume to speaker) to 100% (maximum attenuation).

4.2 LINE Control

The LINE control knob adjusts the output level of the "EMULATED MIC OUT" (XLR) and "LINE OUT" (1/4" TS) jacks. This allows you to fine-tune the signal level sent to your mixing console, audio interface, or external effects, independent of the SOAK control. Adjust this to achieve an optimal input level for your recording or sound reinforcement equipment.

4.3 General Usage Tips

  • Start with your amplifier's volume at a low setting and gradually increase it to your desired "cranked" tone.
  • Adjust the SOAK control to achieve a comfortable listening volume from your speaker cabinet.
  • If using the direct outputs, adjust the LINE control to prevent clipping or ensure a strong signal to your connected device.
  • Always use proper speaker cables for all connections between the amplifier, attenuator, and speaker cabinet. Instrument cables are not suitable for this purpose and can cause damage.
