6. Measurement Modes
6.1 Area Calculation
- Press the Mode button (often indicated by a square icon) until the area icon appears on the display.
- Measure the first side (length) by pressing MEAS.
- Measure the second side (width) by pressing MEAS.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the area.
6.2 Volume Calculation
- Press the Mode button until the volume icon (cube) appears.
- Measure the length, width, and height sequentially by pressing MEAS after each measurement.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the volume.
6.3 Pythagoras Mode (Indirect Measurement)
This mode allows for indirect measurement of heights or distances using the Pythagorean theorem. There are typically two or three different Pythagoras modes (e.g., two-point or three-point measurement). Refer to the icons on the device for specific instructions.
- Press the Mode button until the desired Pythagoras icon appears.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to measure the required sides of the triangle (e.g., hypotenuse, base).
- The device will calculate and display the unknown side.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the device. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the device in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Always use new 1.5V AAA batteries.
- Laser Lens: Keep the laser emission and reception lenses clean. Dust or dirt can affect measurement accuracy.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries | Replace batteries with new ones, ensuring correct polarity. |
| Inaccurate measurements | Dirty laser lens; measurement conditions (e.g., strong sunlight, reflective surfaces); incorrect reference point | Clean the laser lens. Ensure stable measurement conditions. Check the reference point setting (front/rear of device). |
| "Error" message on display | Measurement out of range; laser beam obstructed; strong interference | Ensure target is within range (0.05-50m). Clear any obstructions. Try measuring in a different environment. |
| Display is dim or flickering | Low battery | Replace batteries. |
