Joseph Joseph Intelligent Waste Titan Trash Can Compactor 30L (Model 30146) User Manual

Comprehensive instructions for setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

1. Product Overview

The Joseph Joseph Intelligent Waste Titan Trash Can Compactor is designed to reduce waste volume, allowing it to hold up to three times more waste than a similar-sized domestic unit. This reduces the frequency of emptying and the number of liners used. It features a hygienic compaction system, a durable construction, and an integrated odor filter.

2. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all parts listed in the 'Included Components' section are present.
  2. Placement: Position the trash can on a flat, stable surface. The integrated handle on the reverse side can assist with moving the unit.
  3. Odor Filter Installation: Locate the odor filter compartment on the underside of the lid. Insert the replaceable odor filter into this compartment. Ensure it is securely seated.
  4. Liner Installation:
    • Lift the lid using the foot pedal or by hand.
    • Engage the lid-stay feature to keep the lid open for easier liner changes.
    • Fit a compatible trash liner (Joseph Joseph IW4 custom-fit liners or standard plastic liners) around the rim of the inner bucket. Ensure the liner is fully extended and secured to prevent slipping during use.
    • Disengage the lid-stay and close the lid.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Disposing of Waste

  1. Opening the Lid: Press the foot pedal firmly to open the lid. Alternatively, the lid can be opened manually.
  2. Inserting Waste: Place waste into the trash can. Avoid overfilling the liner before compaction.
  3. Closing the Lid: Release the foot pedal or gently push the lid down to close it.

3.2 Compacting Waste

The Titan's hygienic compaction system allows you to compact waste without touching it directly. This mechanism is designed to prevent tearing of the liner.

  1. Accessing the Compactor Handle: Open the lid. The compactor handle is located inside the unit.
  2. Compacting: Firmly pull the compactor handle upwards and then push it downwards into the waste. Repeat this motion as needed to compress the contents. The unique design ensures only the inside of the plastic liner touches the trash during compaction.
  3. Returning the Handle: Once compaction is complete, return the handle to its upright position.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can damage the finish. The lid features a fingerprint-proof coating.
  • Interior: Periodically clean the interior of the trash can and the inner bucket with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely before re-inserting the liner.
  • Compaction Mechanism: Ensure the compaction mechanism is free from debris. Wipe down any soiled parts with a damp cloth.

4.2 Odor Filter Replacement

The odor filter should be replaced regularly, typically every 3 months, or when odors become noticeable. Replacement filters are available from Joseph Joseph retailers.

  1. Open the lid and locate the filter compartment on the underside.
  2. Remove the old filter.
  3. Insert a new Joseph Joseph odor filter, ensuring it fits snugly.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Compactor Not Working Effectively:
    • Ensure the trash liner is correctly installed and not obstructing the mechanism.
    • Verify that the compactor handle is fully engaged and moving freely.
    • Avoid attempting to compact extremely rigid or oversized items that may exceed the unit's capacity or damage the mechanism.
  • Lid Not Closing Properly:
    • Check for any obstructions around the lid hinges or the rim of the inner bucket.
    • Ensure the lid-stay mechanism is fully disengaged.
  • Unpleasant Odors:
    • Replace the odor filter as described in Section 4.2.
    • Clean the interior of the trash can and inner bucket thoroughly.
    • Ensure the lid is fully closed after each use to contain odors.
  • Foot Pedal Malfunction:
    • Inspect the pedal mechanism for any visible damage or obstructions.
    • Ensure the trash can is on a level surface.
