1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the EcoTypee Vertical Lifeline Assembly. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use, maintenance, and inspection of your fall arrest protection equipment. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product. Proper understanding and adherence to these instructions are crucial for your safety.
WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or death. This equipment must only be used by trained and competent persons.
2. Important Safety Information
- Training: Users must be trained by a competent person in the correct use, inspection, and limitations of this equipment.
- Inspection: Always inspect the entire lifeline assembly before each use. Do not use if any damage, wear, or malfunction is observed.
- Compatibility: Ensure all components of your fall protection system (harness, anchor point, connectors) are compatible and meet relevant safety standards.
- Load Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 3527.4 lbs (16KN).
- Clearance: Ensure adequate fall clearance below the work area to prevent impact with lower levels or obstructions in the event of a fall.
- Anchor Point: The anchor point must be capable of supporting the anticipated loads and be located directly above the work area whenever possible.
- Environmental Factors: Be aware of environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, chemicals, sharp edges, or abrasive surfaces that could affect the equipment's performance.
- After a Fall: If the equipment has been subjected to a fall arrest, it must be immediately removed from service and destroyed.
3. Components Overview
The EcoTypee Vertical Lifeline Assembly consists of the following key components:
- Vertical Lifeline Rope: A 25ft (7.62m) polyester braided rope, 0.55 inches (1.4cm) in diameter.
- Rope Locker (Fall Arrester): A device that attaches to the rope and allows smooth adjustment while locking securely in the event of a fall.
- Energy Absorber: A component designed to dissipate energy during a fall, reducing the impact force on the user.
- Snap Hooks: Two alloy steel snap hooks for secure attachment to anchor points and harnesses.

4. Setup and Connection
- Anchor Point Selection: Identify a suitable anchor point that can support the required load (minimum 5000 lbs or 22.2 kN for fall arrest systems). The anchor point should be located directly above the work area to minimize swing fall hazards.
- Connect Lifeline to Anchor: Use one of the alloy steel snap hooks to securely connect the lifeline rope to the chosen anchor point. Ensure the hook gate is fully closed and locked.
- Connect to Harness: Attach the other alloy steel snap hook, which is connected to the energy absorber and rope locker, to the dorsal D-ring of your full-body harness. Verify the hook gate is fully closed and locked.
- Rope Locker Adjustment: The rope locker is designed to move freely along the rope when not under tension, allowing the user to adjust their position. In the event of a fall, the anti-ratcheting dual-disc braking system will engage, locking the device onto the rope.
- Pre-Use Check: Before beginning work, perform a final check of all connections, ensuring they are secure and free from twists or obstructions. Confirm the rope runs freely through the rope locker.

5. Operating Instructions
Once the lifeline assembly is properly set up and connected, follow these guidelines for operation:
- Movement: As you move, the rope locker will slide along the vertical lifeline, maintaining a connection to your harness.
- Fall Arrest: In the event of a fall, the rope locker will automatically engage, arresting the fall. The energy absorber will deploy to reduce the forces exerted on your body.
- Post-Fall Procedure: After a fall, immediately initiate rescue procedures. Do not attempt to self-rescue unless specifically trained and equipped to do so. The equipment must be removed from service after a fall.
- Applications: This vertical lifeline assembly is suitable for various applications requiring fall protection, including arboriculture, roofing, climbing, logging, inspections, emergency and rescue services, communications, bridges, military operations, and gutter cleaning.

6. Maintenance and Storage
Proper maintenance and storage are essential to ensure the longevity and reliability of your fall protection equipment.
- Regular Inspection: In addition to pre-use checks, conduct a thorough inspection at least every six months, or more frequently depending on usage and environmental conditions. Look for cuts, abrasions, fraying, discoloration, or chemical damage on the rope. Check metal components for deformation, cracks, corrosion, or proper function of gates and springs.
- Cleaning: Clean the rope and metal components with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or heat. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
- Storage: Store the lifeline assembly in a cool, dry, clean, and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, corrosive chemicals, sharp objects, and extreme temperatures. The wrap-around storage feature allows for compact storage.
- Service Life: The service life of fall protection equipment can be affected by many factors. Follow manufacturer guidelines for maximum service life, and always replace equipment if it shows signs of wear, damage, or has been involved in a fall.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your EcoTypee Vertical Lifeline Assembly, consider the following:
- Rope Locker Not Moving Freely: Check for twists or knots in the rope. Ensure the rope is correctly threaded through the device. Clean any dirt or debris from the mechanism.
- Damaged Components: If any part of the assembly (rope, hooks, energy absorber, rope locker) shows signs of damage, wear, or malfunction, immediately remove the equipment from service. Do not attempt repairs.
- Unusual Noises or Operation: If the equipment makes unusual noises or does not operate as expected, cease use immediately and inspect thoroughly.
For any concerns that cannot be resolved, or if you suspect the equipment's integrity is compromised, contact the manufacturer or a qualified safety professional.
