4. Product Overview
Familiarize yourself with the components of your mechanical timer:

Figure 1: Front view of the SPW Pro-Trade MT1 Mechanical Timer. This image shows the main 24-hour rotating dial with hour markings (1-12 AM/PM) and the small black pins used for setting ON/OFF times. A manual override switch is visible at the top.

Figure 2: Side view of the SPW Pro-Trade MT1 Mechanical Timer. This image displays the two-prong plug for connecting to a wall outlet and the single electrical outlet on the side where the landscape lighting transformer will be plugged in. Product specifications are printed on the side label.
- Rotating Dial: The large circular dial marked with 24 hours (1-12 AM/PM). This dial rotates clockwise over a 24-hour period.
- Timing Pins: Small black segments around the dial. Each segment represents 30 minutes. Pushing a pin outwards activates the timer during that 30-minute interval. Pushing it inwards deactivates it.
- Manual Override Switch: Located at the top, this switch allows you to manually turn the connected device ON or OFF, overriding the timer settings.
- Outlet: The receptacle on the side where you plug in your landscape lighting transformer.
- Plug: The two-prong plug for connecting the timer to a standard wall outlet.
5. Setup Instructions
- Set Current Time: Rotate the entire dial clockwise until the current time aligns with the arrow indicator (usually a small triangle or line) on the timer's face. Ensure you distinguish between AM and PM hours.
- Set ON/OFF Times: The black pins around the dial control the ON/OFF periods. Each pin represents 30 minutes.
- To set an ON period, push the corresponding pins outwards.
- To set an OFF period, leave the corresponding pins inwards.
- For example, to turn a device ON from 6 PM to 10 PM, push out all pins between 6 PM and 10 PM.
- Connect to Power: Plug the timer into a standard 125V 60Hz wall outlet.
- Connect Device: Plug your landscape lighting transformer into the outlet on the side of the timer. Ensure the transformer's power switch is in the ON position.
- Set Manual Override Switch: For automatic operation, ensure the manual override switch is set to the "TIMER" or "AUTO" position (if available, otherwise ensure it's not manually ON/OFF). If you want the device to be continuously ON or OFF, use the manual override switch.
6. Operating Instructions
Once set up, the timer will automatically turn the connected device ON and OFF according to the programmed schedule. The dial will continuously rotate, indicating the current time.
- Automatic Operation: The timer will activate and deactivate the connected device based on the pushed-out pins.
- Manual Override: Use the switch at the top to temporarily override the timer settings.
- "ON": Device remains ON, regardless of timer settings.
- "OFF": Device remains OFF, regardless of timer settings.
- "TIMER" or "AUTO": Device operates according to the programmed schedule.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Disconnect the timer from the power outlet before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the timer in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the timer and its cord for any signs of damage. If damaged, discontinue use and replace.
