This section provides step-by-step instructions for installing your Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3 ARGB AIO CPU Cooler. Please refer to the official installation video for visual guidance.
Video 3.1: Official installation guide for the Thermalright Aqua Elite V3 series CPU coolers. This video demonstrates the complete installation process for both AMD and Intel platforms, including mounting hardware, thermal paste application, and cable connections.
3.1. AMD AM4/AM5 Installation
- Prepare Motherboard: For AMD AM5 and AM4 motherboards, carefully remove the existing plastic retention brackets around the CPU socket. Ensure to keep the motherboard's original metal backplate in place.
- Install Standoffs: Place the four red standoffs onto the motherboard's CPU mounting holes.
- Attach Mounting Brackets: Install the two metal AMD mounting brackets onto the red standoffs. Secure them using the provided screws and a screwdriver.
3.2. Intel LGA1700 Installation
- Assemble Intel Backplate: Insert the four backplate screws through the outer mounting holes of the Intel backplate. Use the blue washers to fix the backplate screws in place.
- Install Backplate: From the back side of the motherboard, align and install the assembled Intel backplate so that the backplate screws pass through the motherboard's mounting holes.
- Install Standoffs: On the front side of the motherboard, install the four blue standoffs onto the backplate screws.
- Attach Mounting Brackets: Install the two Intel mounting brackets onto the blue standoffs. Secure them with the provided nuts.
3.3. Common Procedures (All Platforms)
- Apply Thermal Compound: Apply a small amount of the provided thermal compound onto the center of the CPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS). A pea-sized dot or a thin line is generally sufficient.
- Prepare Waterblock: Carefully remove the protective sticker from the copper coldplate of the waterblock.
- Mount Waterblock: Gently place the waterblock onto the CPU, aligning the waterblock bracket nuts with the screws on the installed mounting brackets.
- Secure Waterblock: Tighten the nuts evenly in a diagonal pattern until the waterblock is securely fastened. Do not overtighten.

4. Connections
Proper cable management and connection are crucial for the cooler's functionality and aesthetic.
- Fan PWM Connection: Connect the PWM power cables from the two radiator fans to the provided PWM fan splitter cable. Then, connect the splitter cable to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard. This allows the motherboard to control fan speed based on CPU temperature.
- Waterblock PWM Connection: Connect the 4-pin PWM header from the waterblock/pump unit to either the CPU_OPT or WATER_PUMP header on your motherboard. This provides power to the pump.
- ARGB Lighting Connection: Connect the ARGB lighting cables from the fans and the waterblock to the provided ARGB splitter cable. Then, connect the splitter cable to a 3-pin 5V ARGB header on your motherboard. This enables synchronization of the lighting effects with your motherboard's software. Note: Do not connect to a 4-pin 12V RGB header, as this may damage the ARGB components.
5. Operation
Once installed and connected, the Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3 ARGB AIO CPU Cooler operates automatically. The PWM fans and pump adjust their speeds based on CPU load and temperature, ensuring optimal cooling performance while minimizing noise.
- Fan Speed Control: The 120mm ARGB PWM fans are controlled via the motherboard's CPU_FAN header. You can typically adjust fan curves through your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or dedicated software.
- ARGB Lighting Control: The addressable RGB lighting on the fans and waterblock can be customized using your motherboard's ARGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync). Ensure your motherboard supports 3-pin 5V ARGB.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your AIO cooler.
- Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean the radiator fins and fan blades with compressed air to remove dust buildup. Dust can impede airflow and reduce cooling efficiency.
- Inspect Tubing: Occasionally check the tubing for any signs of kinks, leaks, or damage. While AIOs are sealed, visual inspection is a good practice.
- Thermal Compound: If you ever need to remove the waterblock from the CPU, it is recommended to clean off the old thermal compound from both the CPU and the coldplate and apply a fresh layer before reinstallation.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your cooler, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Fans Not Spinning / Pump Not Working:
- Check all power connections (CPU_FAN, CPU_OPT/WATER_PUMP) to ensure they are securely seated.
- Verify that the fan and pump headers are enabled in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings.
- Ensure the PWM splitter cable is correctly connected.
- High CPU Temperatures:
- Confirm the waterblock is securely mounted and making good contact with the CPU.
- Check if thermal compound was applied correctly and evenly.
- Ensure radiator fans are spinning and oriented correctly for optimal airflow (typically pushing air through the radiator).
- Clean any dust buildup on the radiator fins.
- ARGB Lighting Not Working / Incorrect Colors:
- Verify the ARGB lighting cable is connected to a 3-pin 5V ARGB header on your motherboard, not a 4-pin 12V RGB header.
- Check connections to the ARGB splitter.
- Ensure your motherboard's ARGB software is installed and configured correctly.
- Update motherboard BIOS and ARGB software to the latest versions.
- Excessive Noise:
- Check for loose fan screws or vibrations.
- Ensure no cables are interfering with fan blades.
- Adjust fan curves in BIOS/UEFI to reduce fan speed at lower temperatures.
- A gurgling sound might indicate air bubbles in the loop; this often resolves itself over time. If persistent, try gently tilting the PC case to help move air bubbles to the radiator.
