4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The safe requires batteries for the electronic keypad. Open the safe door using the emergency key (refer to section 6.3 for emergency key access if needed). Locate the battery compartment on the inside of the door. Insert the required batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment cover.
4.2 Mounting the Safe
For optimal security, it is recommended to securely mount the safe to a wall or floor. The safe includes expansion screws for this purpose.
- Choose a suitable location for mounting.
- Open the safe door.
- Mark the drilling points through the pre-drilled holes inside the safe (typically on the back or bottom).
- Drill pilot holes at the marked locations.
- Align the safe with the drilled holes and secure it using the provided expansion screws and hexagonal screwdriver.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Setting the Tenant Password
The default operating mode is Hotel Mode. Ensure the safe door is unlocked before setting a new tenant password. The tenant password can be 4-6 digits long. Setting a new tenant password will overwrite any previous tenant password.
- With the safe door unlocked, enter the desired 4-6 digit tenant password.
- Press the "#" button to confirm and save the password. The safe will indicate successful setting.
5.2 Locking the Safe
To lock the safe, simply close the door. The safe will automatically lock after a few seconds, or you can manually lock it by entering a password and pressing '#'.
5.3 Unlocking the Safe
To unlock the safe, enter the tenant password you have set. The safe will display "OPEN" or "OPENED" and the door will unlock.

6. Operating Modes
The Grimtron safe offers different operating modes to suit various needs:
6.1 Hotel Mode
In Hotel Mode, the safe is designed for temporary users (tenants). Each time the safe is opened with a tenant password, that password is automatically invalidated, requiring the user to set a new password for the next use. This ensures privacy and security for each new guest.
6.2 Personal Mode
Personal Mode allows a single, persistent user password. This mode is suitable for long-term personal use where the same password is used repeatedly. Refer to the user manual version 2.0 for detailed instructions on switching between Hotel and Personal modes.
6.3 Administrator Mode
The safe supports an Administrator Function Code, which allows for advanced settings such as setting a hotel administrator password that prevents modification by tenants, and setting the year, month, day, and time. The audit-trail function, which queries opening and closing records, is also accessible via an optional handheld CEU (not included) through the Administrator Device Connection Port.

7. Silent Mode
The safe features a silent mode to disable keypad sounds, which can be useful in quiet environments.
7.1 Turning On Silent Mode
To activate silent mode:
- Press "*" → "6" → "6" → "#" on the keypad.
- The screen will display "SP-OFF", indicating that silent mode has been successfully enabled.
7.2 Turning Off Silent Mode
To deactivate silent mode:
- Press "*" → "6" → "6" → "#" on the keypad.
- The screen will display "SP-ON", indicating that silent mode has been successfully turned off.
8. Emergency Access
In case of forgotten password or battery failure, the safe can be opened using the emergency key.
- Locate the emergency keyhole, typically concealed behind a small cover on the keypad panel.
- Remove the cover using the provided hexagonal screwdriver or a similar tool.
- Insert the emergency key into the keyhole and turn it to unlock the safe.
- Once unlocked, you can open the safe door.
9. Maintenance
9.1 General Care
To maintain the safe's appearance and functionality:
- Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Ensure the keypad is kept clean and dry.
- Regularly check battery levels and replace them as needed to prevent lockouts.
9.2 Battery Replacement
When the battery power is low, the keypad display may dim or not respond. Replace the batteries promptly to avoid being locked out. Use the emergency key if the batteries are completely depleted.
10. Troubleshooting
10.1 Alarm Activation
The safe is equipped with an alarm that activates after multiple incorrect password entries. If the alarm sounds:
- Wait for the alarm to cease, or use the emergency key to open the safe.
- Ensure you are entering the correct password.
- If in Hotel Mode, remember that the previous tenant password is invalidated after each successful unlock.
10.2 Keypad Unresponsive
If the keypad is unresponsive:
- Check the batteries and replace them if necessary.
- Ensure there is no obstruction or damage to the keypad.
- Use the emergency key for access.
