Important Safety Instructions

• Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection, hearing protection, and heavy-duty gloves.
• Keep hands, feet, and other body parts away from the rotating auger bit during operation.
• Do not force the auger into the ground if it becomes stuck. Release the trigger and use the reverse function to clear the obstruction.
• Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders, pets, and hidden obstacles such as pipes or electrical lines.
• Before each use, inspect the auger for any damage, loose parts, or worn components. Do not operate a damaged tool.
• Always maintain a firm grip on both handles during operation.

Setup and Assembly

Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts listed in the packing list are present and undamaged. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.

Attaching the Auger Bit

The 8-inch earth auger drill bit is included. To attach it, align the bit with the drive shaft and secure it using the provided pin. Ensure the pin is fully inserted and locked into place before operation.

Battery Installation

Insert a fully charged EGO 56V ARC Lithium battery into the battery compartment until it clicks securely into place. Ensure the battery is properly seated before operation. Refer to your battery and charger manual for charging instructions.

Operating Instructions

Starting the Auger

With the battery installed and the auger bit securely attached, grip both handles firmly. Press the safety lock-off button, then squeeze the trigger to start the auger. Release the trigger to stop the auger.

Speed Settings

The auger features high and low-speed settings, selectable via a switch located on the handle. Choose the appropriate speed based on soil conditions and desired digging efficiency. High speed is for faster digging in softer soils, while low speed provides more torque for tougher conditions.

Reverse Function

If the auger bit becomes stuck or you need to clear soil from the hole, use the reverse function. Activate the reverse switch, then squeeze the trigger to rotate the bit in the opposite direction, allowing for easy extraction.

Digging Technique

• Position the auger bit vertically over the desired digging spot.
• Apply steady downward pressure while squeezing the trigger. Allow the auger to do the work; do not force it.
• For deeper holes or dense soil, periodically lift the auger slightly to clear loose soil from the hole. This prevents the bit from binding.
• The anti-kickback protection feature will stop the auger if it encounters a jam, reducing the risk of injury. If this occurs, release the trigger, clear the obstruction if possible, and restart.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning

After each use, clean the auger bit and the main unit. Remove any accumulated soil, debris, or plant matter. Use a damp cloth for the main unit and a stiff brush for the auger bit. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

Storage

Store the auger in a dry, secure location, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery from the tool before storing for extended periods. Store batteries in a cool, dry place.

Bit Inspection

Regularly inspect the auger bit for wear, damage, or dullness. A sharp bit ensures efficient digging and reduces strain on the motor. Replace damaged or excessively worn bits to maintain optimal performance and safety.

Troubleshooting

Auger Not Starting

• Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted into the tool.
• Check that the safety lock-off button is pressed before squeezing the trigger.
• Verify that the auger bit is correctly attached and secured.

Auger Stops During Operation

• The anti-kickback protection may have activated due to hitting an obstruction. Release the trigger, clear the obstruction if possible, and restart.
• The battery may be depleted. Replace with a fully charged battery.
• The motor may have overheated due to continuous heavy use. Allow the tool to cool down for several minutes before resuming operation.

Inefficient Digging

• The auger bit may be dull or damaged. Inspect and replace if necessary.
• Soil conditions may be extremely dense or rocky. Use the low-speed setting and apply steady, controlled pressure, lifting periodically to clear soil.
