4.2 Detailed Installation Steps

  1. Plan Layout: Determine the desired locations for your spotlights. Consider the areas you wish to illuminate and the path for your low voltage cable.
  2. Prepare Wiring: If trenching, dig a shallow trench for your main supply low voltage cable (not included). Lay the cable according to your planned layout.
  3. Remove Glare Guard & Shield:
    • Unlock the lock screw on the fixture.
    • Remove the glare guard from the shield.
    • Unscrew the shield and remove it from the fixture.
  4. Install MR16 LED Bulb:
    • Carefully insert the MR16 LED bulb into the socket.
    • CAUTION: Do not exceed the maximum wattage marked on the fixture label.
    • NOTE: Avoid touching the bulb with bare hands. Use a soft cloth to handle the bulb to prevent oil residue from shortening its lifespan.
  5. Install Glare Guard & Shield:
    • Screw the shield back onto the fixture.
    • Pass the glare guard over the shield and secure with the lock screw. Tighten until snug.
  6. Install Stake:
    • Determine the desired location for mounting the fixture.
    • Hammer the ground stake into the ground until the flange of the stake is flush with the grade.
    • To avoid damage to the stake, place a board on top of the stake while hammering.
    • NOTE: If the ground is hard or difficult to penetrate, make a crosscut in the ground using a flat shovel first.
  7. Install Fixture to Stake:
    • Thread the fixture's pigtail wire through the hole in the middle of the stake.
    • Lay the luminaire pigtail into the wireway slot and screw the fixture onto the stake. Tighten until snug.
  8. Wire Connections:
    • Strip both leads from the fixture pigtail.
    • Using the provided fastlock wire connectors, connect the leads from the fixture to the main low voltage supply cable. Ensure connections are secure and waterproof.
    • NOTE: Extra cable connectors may be required depending on your setup.
  9. Connect to Low Voltage Transformer: Connect the main supply low voltage power cable to your low voltage transformer (not included). Follow the transformer's instructions for proper connection.

  • Bulb Replacement: The LED bulbs have a working life of over 50,000 hours. If a bulb needs replacement, ensure the power is off, then follow the steps in Section 4.2 (Steps 3-5) to safely replace the MR16 LED bulb. Use only MR16 LED bulbs that match the wattage specified on the fixture.
  • Wire Inspection: Periodically check all wire connections for tightness and signs of wear or damage. Ensure waterproof connections remain sealed.
