1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the DPM AquaStar Pipeline Cartridge Filter. This heavy-duty filter is designed to provide superior filtration for your swimming pool or spa, ensuring crystal clear water with minimal maintenance. Its innovative design prioritizes ease of use, safety, and hydraulic efficiency, outperforming many traditional filter systems.
This manual provides essential information for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your AquaStar Pipeline Cartridge Filter. Please read it thoroughly before attempting any installation or operation.
2. Safety Information
Always observe basic safety precautions when installing and operating this product to reduce the risk of injury, fire, or electric shock.
- Read all instructions: Familiarize yourself with the entire manual before installation or operation.
- Depressurize before servicing: Always ensure the filter system is completely depressurized and the pump is off before opening the filter or performing any maintenance. The AquaStar Pipeline Filter features a patented double-locking system for safe and quick depressurization.
- Electrical safety: Ensure all electrical connections to the pump are made by a qualified electrician and comply with local codes. Never operate the pump or filter if electrical components are wet.
- Proper installation: Install the filter according to the instructions to prevent damage and ensure safe operation. Improper installation can void the warranty.
- Keep children away: Do not allow children to operate or play near the filter system.

- Filter Tank: Durable housing for the filter cartridge.
- Filter Cartridge: The primary filtration element, designed for high capacity and easy cleaning.
- Pressure Gauge: Indicates the internal pressure of the filter, crucial for determining when cleaning is needed.
- Air Relief Valve: Used to release trapped air from the system during startup or after servicing.
- Lid Assembly: Features a patented double-locking system for secure sealing and easy depressurization.
4. Installation and Setup
Proper installation is critical for the performance and longevity of your filter. It is recommended to have a qualified pool professional perform the installation.
4.1 Site Selection
- Choose a level, solid surface capable of supporting the weight of the filter when filled with water.
- Locate the filter as close to the pool pump as possible to minimize plumbing runs and maximize efficiency.
- Ensure adequate clearance around the filter for maintenance and servicing. Refer to the dimensions diagram below.
- Protect the filter from direct sunlight and harsh weather conditions if possible.

4.2 Plumbing Connections
- The filter is designed with a specific inlet and outlet. The inlet is typically on the left when facing the filter, and the outlet on the right. Ensure plumbing is routed correctly from the pump to the filter inlet, and from the filter outlet back to the pool.
- Use appropriate PVC piping and fittings. Apply thread sealant to all threaded connections.
- Install shut-off valves before the pump and after the filter to allow for isolation during maintenance.
- Ensure all connections are watertight to prevent leaks.
4.3 Initial Startup
- Ensure the filter cartridge is properly seated inside the filter tank.
- Close the lid assembly securely, ensuring both locking clicks are engaged.
- Open the air relief valve on top of the filter.
- Slowly open the shut-off valves to allow water to fill the filter tank.
- Once water begins to flow steadily from the air relief valve, close the valve.
- Turn on the pool pump. Observe the pressure gauge. The initial operating pressure should be noted as your 'clean filter' pressure.
- Check for any leaks around the plumbing connections and filter lid.
5. Operating Instructions
Once installed, operating your AquaStar filter is straightforward.
- Normal Operation: The filter should operate continuously or for set periods as determined by your pool's needs and pump timer.
- Monitoring Pressure: Regularly check the pressure gauge. As the filter collects debris, the internal pressure will rise. When the pressure rises 8-10 PSI above your 'clean filter' pressure, or if water flow significantly decreases, it's time to clean the filter cartridge.
- Air Relief: If you notice air bubbles returning to the pool, or if the pump is struggling, there may be air trapped in the system. Turn off the pump, open the air relief valve until water flows steadily, then close it and restart the pump.
6. Maintenance
Regular cleaning of the filter cartridge is essential for optimal performance and water clarity.
6.1 Cleaning the Filter Cartridge

An image demonstrating the safety and ease-of-access of the Pipeline Filter's patented double-locking system for depressurization, alongside a comparison of the filter's core design with a competitor's, highlighting superior filtration performance.
- Turn off the pump: Always turn off the pool pump and any automatic cleaning systems.
- Depressurize the filter: Slowly open the air relief valve on top of the filter. Once the pressure gauge reads zero, open the drain plug at the bottom of the filter to drain the water.
- Open the lid: Utilize the patented double-locking system to safely and easily open the filter lid. No special tools are required.
- Remove the cartridge: Carefully lift the filter cartridge out of the tank.
- Clean the cartridge: Use a garden hose with a strong nozzle to thoroughly rinse debris from between the pleats of the cartridge. Work from top to bottom. For stubborn dirt or oils, a specialized cartridge cleaning solution may be used (follow product instructions).
- Inspect and replace: Inspect the cartridge for any damage (tears, rips). If damaged, replace it.
- Reassemble: Place the clean cartridge back into the filter tank, ensuring it is properly seated. Close the drain plug. Securely close the lid assembly, ensuring both locking clicks are engaged.
- Restart the system: Follow the 'Initial Startup' steps (Section 4.3) to refill the filter and restart the pump.
6.2 Filter Cartridge Replacement
Filter cartridges have a finite lifespan and will eventually need replacement, typically every 3-5 years depending on usage and maintenance. Replace the cartridge if it is damaged, if cleaning no longer restores adequate flow or pressure, or if water clarity remains poor after cleaning.
- Follow steps 1-4 from 'Cleaning the Filter Cartridge' to remove the old cartridge.
- Insert a new, genuine AquaStar replacement cartridge into the tank.
- Follow steps 6-8 from 'Cleaning the Filter Cartridge' to reassemble and restart the system.
6.3 Winterization (for colder climates)
If you live in a region where temperatures drop below freezing, you must properly winterize your filter to prevent freeze damage.
- Turn off the pump and depressurize the filter.
- Remove the filter cartridge and clean it thoroughly. Store the cartridge indoors in a dry place.
- Open the drain plug and remove any other drain plugs on the filter to ensure all water is drained.
- Store the filter lid indoors if possible, or cover the entire filter system with a protective winter cover.
