Setup and Installation

Identifying Components

The Montech AX 140 ARGB fan consists of the fan frame, fan blades, and integrated ARGB lighting. It features a 4-Pin PWM connector for fan speed control and a standard 3-Pin 5V ARGB connector for lighting synchronization.

Mounting the Fan

  1. Ensure your computer system is powered off and disconnected from the main power supply.
  2. Identify the desired mounting location within your PC case. Common locations include front, rear, top, or bottom fan mounts.
  3. Position the Montech AX 140 ARGB fan against the mounting holes, ensuring the airflow direction is correct for your cooling setup (typically, the side with the frame supports and sticker indicates exhaust).
  4. Secure the fan using the provided mounting screws. Tighten screws evenly to prevent vibration.

Connecting the Fan

  1. Locate an available 4-Pin fan header on your motherboard. Connect the fan's 4-Pin PWM cable to this header. This allows the motherboard to control fan speed.
  2. Locate an available 3-Pin 5V ARGB header (Addressable RGB) on your motherboard. Connect the fan's ARGB cable to this header. Ensure correct polarity to avoid damage. Do not connect to a 12V RGB header.
  3. If your motherboard does not have an ARGB header, you may need a separate ARGB controller (not included) to manage the lighting effects.

Operating Instructions

Fan Speed Control (PWM)

The Montech AX 140 ARGB fan utilizes Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) for precise speed control. Once connected to a 4-Pin PWM header on your motherboard, you can manage the fan speed through your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings or dedicated software provided by your motherboard manufacturer. This allows for dynamic adjustment of fan speed based on system temperature, optimizing cooling performance and noise levels.

ARGB Lighting Control

The Addressable RGB (ARGB) lighting can be controlled via your motherboard's ARGB software (e.g., ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light Sync, GIGABYTE RGB Fusion, ASRock Polychrome Sync). Ensure your motherboard's software is up-to-date for the best lighting customization experience.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance and airflow, regularly clean your Montech AX 140 ARGB fan:

  • Power off your computer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Use compressed air to gently remove dust accumulation from the fan blades and frame. Hold the fan blades to prevent them from spinning rapidly during cleaning, which can damage the bearings.
  • For stubborn dirt, a soft, dry cloth can be used. Avoid using liquid cleaners directly on the fan.

Troubleshooting

Fan Not Spinning

  • Check if the 4-Pin PWM connector is securely attached to the motherboard fan header.
  • Verify that the fan header is enabled in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Ensure the system is receiving power.

ARGB Lights Not Working

  • Confirm the 3-Pin 5V ARGB connector is correctly plugged into a compatible ARGB header on your motherboard. Ensure it is not connected to a 12V RGB header.
  • Check your motherboard's ARGB control software to ensure lighting effects are enabled and configured.
  • If using an external ARGB controller, ensure it is properly powered and configured.
