2. Safety Instructions
Your safety and the safety of others are very important. Always observe the following safety precautions when operating or servicing the engine.
General Safety
- Read the Manual: Understand all instructions and warnings before operating the engine.
- Ventilation: Operate the engine in a well-ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, and poisonous gas.
- Fuel Safety: Gasoline is highly flammable. Store fuel in approved containers. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or allow open flames near fuel.
- Hot Surfaces: The engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for a period after shutdown. Avoid contact to prevent burns.
- Moving Parts: Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from moving parts to prevent injury.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the engine and operating area.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection when operating or servicing the engine.
3. Setup and Preparation
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the engine from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Retain packaging materials for future transport or storage.
3.2 Mounting
Ensure the engine is securely mounted to the equipment according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions. Verify all mounting bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
3.3 Adding Engine Oil
The engine is shipped without oil. It is critical to add the correct type and amount of oil before first use.
- Place the engine on a level surface.
- Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick.
- Add recommended 4-stroke engine oil (e.g., SAE 10W-30) to the engine crankcase. Refer to the engine specifications for capacity.
- Check the oil level using the dipstick. Do not overfill.
- Securely replace the oil filler cap/dipstick.
3.4 Adding Fuel
Use fresh, clean unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher (E5 compatible). Do not use E85 or fuel containing more than 10% ethanol.
- Ensure the engine is off and cool.
- Remove the fuel tank cap.
- Fill the fuel tank carefully, avoiding spills. Do not fill above the maximum fill line.
- Securely replace the fuel tank cap.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Pre-Operation Check
- Check engine oil level.
- Check fuel level.
- Inspect air filter for cleanliness.
- Ensure all fasteners are tight.
4.2 Starting the Engine
- Fuel Valve: Open the fuel valve (if equipped).
- Choke: For a cold engine, move the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position. For a warm engine, set the choke to 'RUN' or 'OFF'.
- Throttle: Set the throttle lever to the 'FAST' position.
- Recoil Starter: Pull the recoil starter handle slowly until resistance is felt, then pull briskly. Repeat if necessary.
- Choke Adjustment: Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the 'RUN' or 'OFF' position as the engine warms up.
4.3 Stopping the Engine
- Move the throttle lever to the 'SLOW' or 'IDLE' position.
- Move the engine switch to the 'OFF' position.
- Close the fuel valve (if equipped) for storage.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and performance of your engine. Always perform maintenance with the engine off and cool, and disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting.
5.1 Maintenance Schedule
| Item | Every Use | Every 25 Hours / Annually | Every 50 Hours / Annually | Every 100 Hours / Annually |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Check Engine Oil Level | ✓ | |||
| Clean Air Filter | ✓ | |||
| Change Engine Oil | ✓ | |||
| Inspect Spark Plug | ✓ | |||
| Replace Spark Plug | ✓ |
5.2 Oil Change Procedure
- Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil.
- Place a suitable container under the oil drain plug.
- Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick and the oil drain plug.
- Allow all old oil to drain completely.
- Replace the oil drain plug and tighten securely.
- Refill with the recommended type and amount of new oil (refer to specifications).
- Check the oil level and replace the filler cap/dipstick.
5.3 Air Filter Maintenance
The engine uses a dry-type air filter.
- Remove the air filter cover.
- Remove the foam pre-filter and paper element.
- Clean the foam pre-filter with warm, soapy water, rinse, and allow to air dry completely. Lightly oil with engine oil and squeeze out excess.
- Tap the paper element gently to remove loose dirt. Do not wash or use compressed air. Replace if heavily soiled or damaged.
- Reinstall the air filter components and cover.
