General Safety Rules

Specific Warnings
- Hot Surfaces: Engine components become very hot during operation and remain hot for a period after shutdown. Avoid contact to prevent burns.

3. Setup and Installation

Mounting the Engine

Adding Engine Oil
The engine is shipped without oil. It is critical to add the correct type and amount of oil before first use.
- Place the engine on a level surface.
- Remove the oil fill cap/dipstick.
- Pour recommended engine oil (e.g., SAE 10W-30) into the oil fill opening until the oil level reaches the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill.
- Securely replace the oil fill cap/dipstick.
Adding Fuel
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Do not use E85 or mixed fuels.
- Ensure the engine is off and cool.
- Clean the area around the fuel cap to prevent dirt from entering the tank.
- Slowly remove the fuel cap.
- Fill the fuel tank, leaving approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) of space from the top to allow for fuel expansion.
- Securely replace the fuel cap. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.
4. Operating Instructions
Pre-Operation Checklist
- Check engine oil level.
- Check fuel level.
- Inspect air filter for cleanliness.
- Ensure all fasteners are tight.
- Verify the equipment connected to the engine is in good working order.
Starting the Engine
- Move the throttle lever to the 'FAST' position.
- Move the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position (for cold starts). For warm starts, the choke may not be necessary.
- Pull the recoil starter handle slowly until resistance is felt, then pull briskly. Repeat if necessary.
- Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position as the engine warms up.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes before applying load.

Stopping the Engine
- Move the throttle lever to the 'SLOW' or 'IDLE' position.
- Move the engine switch to the 'OFF' position.

- Avoid running the engine at maximum speed for extended periods without load.
- Do not operate the engine on slopes exceeding 20 degrees to ensure proper lubrication.
- Regularly check for unusual noises or vibrations.
5. Maintenance Schedule
Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of your engine. Perform maintenance at the specified intervals.
Daily Checks (Before Each Use)
- Check engine oil level.
- Check fuel level.
- Inspect air filter.
- Check for loose fasteners or leaks.
Every 25 Hours or Annually (Whichever comes first)
- Change Engine Oil: Drain old oil while the engine is warm. Refill with recommended oil.
Every 50 Hours or Annually (Whichever comes first)
- Clean/Replace Air Filter: Clean foam filter element with warm, soapy water, rinse, and air dry. Lightly oil with engine oil before reinstalling. Replace paper elements if excessively dirty.
- Inspect Spark Plug: Check for wear, carbon buildup, and proper gap. Clean or replace as needed.
Fuel System Maintenance
If storing the engine for more than 30 days, drain the fuel tank and carburetor or use a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation.
Storage
For extended storage, perform the following:
- Drain fuel or add stabilizer.
- Change engine oil.
- Remove spark plug, pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder, and pull the starter cord a few times to distribute the oil. Reinstall spark plug.
- Clean the engine exterior.
- Store in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area.
