Step-by-Step Installation Guide
For a visual guide, please refer to the official installation video below.
Video 1: Official Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3 Liquid CPU Cooler Installation Guide. This video demonstrates the complete installation process for both Intel and AMD platforms, including backplate adjustment, thermal paste application, and water block mounting.
- Prepare Motherboard: If installing on an Intel LGA115X/1200 socket, adjust the backplate to use the inner holes. For LGA1700, use the outer holes. For AMD AM4/AM5, use the existing AMD backplate. Install the appropriate backplate from the back side of the motherboard.
- Install Standoffs: From the front side of the motherboard, install the blue standoffs onto the screws protruding from the backplate.
- Prepare Water Block: Align the arrow on the metal bracket to the water block and rotate to lock it in place. Carefully remove the protective sticker from the copper base of the water block.
- Apply Thermal Compound: Apply a pea-sized amount of the included thermal compound onto the center of your CPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS).
- Mount Water Block: Carefully place the water block onto the CPU, aligning the mounting holes on the bracket with the standoffs. Secure the metal bracket with the four nuts provided, tightening them in a diagonal pattern to ensure even pressure.
- Install Radiator: Install the radiator onto your PC case using the short radiator screws. Ensure the fans are oriented to provide optimal airflow (e.g., exhaust out of the top or front of the case).
- Connect Cables:
- Connect the fan PWM cables to the fan splitter cable for fan speed synchronization.
- Connect the fan ARGB cables to sync the lighting signal.
- Connect the ARGB lighting cable to a 3-pin 5V ARGB socket on your motherboard.
- Install the fan splitting cable on the CPU_FAN socket on your motherboard.
- Connect the pump power cable to the CPU_OPT or AIO PUMP socket on your motherboard.

Operating Instructions
The Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3 is designed for efficient and quiet operation. Once installed, the cooler will automatically manage fan and pump speeds based on CPU temperature, thanks to its PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control.
- PWM Fan Control: The dual TL-C12B-S V2 fans are equipped with PWM functionality, allowing them to automatically adjust their speed (up to 1500 RPM) according to the CPU temperature. This provides strong airflow when needed and reduces noise during lighter loads.
- ARGB Lighting: The fans and the pump head feature Addressable RGB (ARGB) lighting. This lighting can be synchronized with your motherboard's 5V 3-pin ARGB header, allowing you to control the 16 million color soft light effects through your motherboard's software.
- Efficient Pump: The fourth-generation pump head operates at up to 3,300 RPM, ensuring consistent and effective coolant circulation for optimal heat dissipation.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your liquid CPU cooler.
- Dust Cleaning: Periodically clean the radiator fins and fan blades to prevent dust buildup, which can impede airflow and reduce cooling efficiency. Use compressed air or a soft brush.
- Check Connections: Ensure all cables (PWM, ARGB, pump power) are securely connected to the motherboard and components.
- Inspect Tubing: Visually inspect the water tubes for any signs of kinks, leaks, or damage. The protective mesh water pipe is designed for durability, but regular checks are recommended.
- Thermal Paste: While the included thermal paste is high quality, consider reapplying fresh thermal paste every 1-2 years for sustained optimal performance.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- High CPU Temperatures:
- Ensure the water block is securely mounted to the CPU with even pressure.
- Verify that thermal paste was applied correctly and evenly.
- Check fan orientation for proper airflow (pushing air through the radiator).
- Confirm pump is running (listen for a faint hum or check motherboard monitoring software).
- Fans Not Spinning / RGB Not Lighting Up:
- Check all fan and ARGB cable connections to the splitter and motherboard.
- Ensure the 5V 3-pin ARGB header on the motherboard is enabled in BIOS/UEFI or software.
- Verify that the fan headers on the motherboard are supplying power.
- Unusual Pump Noise:
- Ensure the pump is positioned lower than the highest point of the radiator to prevent air bubbles from accumulating in the pump.
- Check for any kinks in the tubing that might restrict flow.
- A slight hum is normal; excessive gurgling or grinding may indicate air in the loop or a faulty pump.
