5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew delicious espresso and froth milk.

5.1. Brewing Espresso

  1. Preheat: Ensure the machine is plugged in and turned on. Allow it to preheat until the indicator light is steady, indicating it has reached the optimal brewing temperature. You can also place your cups on the cup warmer grill (Figure 4) to preheat them.

  2. Prepare Portafilter: Insert the desired filter basket (single or double) into the portafilter.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Fill the filter basket with fresh, medium-ground espresso coffee. Do not use fine-ground coffee as it may clog the machine.
  4. Tamp Coffee: Use the tamper to firmly press the coffee grounds. Ensure the surface is level.
  5. Attach Portafilter: Align the portafilter with the group head on the machine and twist it firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
  6. Place Cups: Place one or two espresso cups on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts. The removable drip tray allows for larger cups.
  7. Brew Espresso: Turn the control knob to the "Brew" position. Espresso will begin to flow into your cups. Turn the knob back to the "Off" position once the desired amount of espresso is brewed.
  8. Remove Portafilter: Carefully remove the portafilter by twisting it to the left. Dispose of the used coffee grounds.

5.2. Frothing Milk

The integrated steam wand allows you to create creamy milk foam for cappuccinos and lattes.

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
  2. Heat Steam Wand: Turn the control knob to the "Steam" position. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate steadily, indicating the steam function is ready. Briefly open the steam valve to release any condensed water. Close the valve.
  3. Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Slowly open the steam valve. Angle the pitcher slightly to create a swirling motion.

  4. Achieve Desired Foam: Continue frothing until the milk reaches the desired temperature and consistency. For latte art, aim for a smooth, velvety texture. For cappuccino, aim for thicker foam.
  5. Stop Steaming: Close the steam valve and remove the pitcher.
  6. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam valve again to clear any milk from inside the wand.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso machine.

  • Daily Cleaning:
    • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the removable drip tray after each use.

    • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Water Tank: Clean the water tank periodically with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Descaling: Depending on water hardness and frequency of use, descale your machine every 2-3 months.
    • Use a commercial descaling solution designed for coffee machines, following the product's instructions.

    • Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
