5. Operating Instructions: How to Make an RJ45 Connector

Follow these steps to properly terminate an RJ45 network cable:

  1. Step 1: Strip the Cable Jacket
Insert the cable into the mini yellow stripper. Rotate the stripper gently around the cable to cut the outer jacket without damaging the inner wires. Remove approximately 0.5 to 0.75 inches (1.2 to 1.9 cm) of the jacket.

  2. Step 2: Separate and Order the Wires
Untwist the wire pairs and straighten them. Arrange the wires according to either the T568A or T568B wiring standard. Ensure the wires are flat and parallel.

  3. Step 3: Insert Wires into Connector
Carefully insert the ordered wires into the RJ45 pass-through connector, ensuring each wire slides into its correct channel. Push the wires through until they exit the front of the connector. Verify the wire order through the transparent connector body.
  4. Step 4: Crimp the Connector
Insert the prepared connector with wires into the 8P RJ45 crimping slot of the tool. Apply firm, even pressure to the handles until the crimper fully closes. The integrated blade will trim the excess wires extending from the front of the connector while simultaneously crimping the pins onto the wires.

  5. Step 5: Test the Connection (Optional but Recommended)
If available, use a cable tester to verify the continuity and correct wiring of the newly crimped cable. This step helps ensure a functional connection and saves time in troubleshooting network issues.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your CHZHLM crimper tool, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust, wire fragments, or debris.
  • Blade Inspection: Regularly inspect the cutting and crimping blades for sharpness and damage. The blades are made of high carbon steel for durability, but prolonged use may require replacement.
  • Blade Replacement: The kit includes a set of replacement blades. To replace, carefully unscrew the retaining screws, remove the old blades, and install the new ones, ensuring they are properly seated. Tighten the screws securely.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the pivot points and moving parts to ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: Store the tool in a dry, clean environment, preferably in its original packaging or a tool bag, to protect it from moisture and impact. Use the lock mechanism to keep the handles closed during storage.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using the crimper tool, consider the following common problems and solutions:

  • Poor Crimp Quality:
    • Ensure the wires are fully inserted into the connector and pushed through to the end before crimping.
    • Apply firm and even pressure throughout the crimping process.
    • Check if the crimping blade is worn or damaged. Replace if necessary.
  • Wires Not Trimming Properly:
    • Verify that the cutting blade is sharp and free of debris.
    • Ensure the wires are extended sufficiently past the connector face for the blade to engage.
    • Replace the cutting blade if it appears dull or chipped.
  • Cable Jacket Not Stripping Cleanly:
    • Ensure the cable is properly seated in the stripper.
    • Rotate the stripper gently and consistently around the cable. Avoid excessive force.
    • The stripper is designed for standard cable jackets; very thick or thin jackets may require careful adjustment of pressure.
  • Tool Jams or Sticks:
    • Check for any foreign objects or wire fragments obstructing the mechanism.
    • Apply lubrication to the pivot points as described in the Maintenance section.
