3. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to set up your telescope:

  1. Set up the Tripod:

Unfold the tripod legs and extend them to your desired height. Ensure the legs are fully spread to maximize stability. The tripod's broad base covers a maximum area of 3.6 square feet for optimal support.

  2. Mount the Telescope Tube:

Attach the telescope optical tube to the integrated gimbal mount on the tripod. Secure it firmly using the provided fasteners. The gimbal allows for quick and precise adjustments.

  3. Attach the Diagonal Mirror and Eyepiece:

Insert the diagonal mirror into the telescope's focuser. Then, insert your chosen eyepiece (10mm or 20mm) into the diagonal mirror. For initial setup, the 20mm eyepiece provides a wider field of view, making it easier to locate objects.

  4. Install the Reflex Finderscope:

Mount the reflex finderscope onto its designated slot on the telescope tube. This will assist in quickly pointing the telescope at your desired target.

  5. Attach the Smartphone Adapter (Optional):

If you plan to use your smartphone for astrophotography or telephoto imaging, attach the smartphone adapter to an eyepiece. Ensure your phone is securely clamped. The gimbal's dual-axis movement and handle lock facilitate precise targeting for photography.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Focusing and Targeting

The HOROX telescope features effortless targeting and swift focusing mechanisms:

  • Targeting: Use the two knobs on the gimbal to make quick and precise adjustments to align your target. Once aligned, use the handle lock to secure the gimbal in place.
  • Focusing: Utilize the Fast Focus feature. Rotate the focus knob until the image appears sharp and clear. The patented Focus Indicator assists in achieving optimal clarity.

4.2. Observation Tips

Your 80mm objective lens allows more light to enter, providing high resolution for various observations:

  • Nighttime Astronomy: This telescope excels in observing dim and distant celestial objects such as Saturn, Jupiter, and the M31 galaxy. For best results, observe from a dark location away from light pollution.
  • Daytime Terrestrial Observation: When paired with a smartphone camera, the telescope functions as an outstanding 'telephoto lens' for capturing intricate details of everyday life, including distant scenery, birds, and flowers.

5. Maintenance and Care

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your telescope:

  • Cleaning Lenses: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. Gently wipe away dust. For smudges, use a specialized optical cleaning solution sparingly. Avoid touching the lens surfaces with your fingers.
  • Storage: Store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment. Use lens caps when not in use to protect the optics. Its compact design (22cm tube length for 850mm focal length) makes it easy to store and transport.
  • General Care: Avoid exposing the telescope to extreme temperatures or sudden temperature changes. Handle all components with care to prevent damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your telescope, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Image is blurry or out of focus.Improper focus setting.Adjust the focus knob slowly until the image becomes sharp. Ensure the Focus Indicator is aligned.
Difficulty locating objects.Finderscope not aligned or incorrect eyepiece.Align the finderscope with the main telescope. Start with the 20mm eyepiece for a wider field of view, then switch to the 10mm for higher magnification.
Image appears dim.Light pollution or atmospheric conditions.Move to a darker observation site. Wait for clearer atmospheric conditions.
Tripod instability.Legs not fully extended or secured.Ensure tripod legs are fully extended and locked into position. Place on a flat, stable surface.
