Important Safety Information
Please read and understand all instructions and safety warnings before installing, operating, or maintaining your Scott Aerator Amherst Pond Fountain. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, injury, or property damage.
- Electrical Safety: This unit operates on 230V. Always disconnect power at the circuit breaker before performing any installation, maintenance, or service. Ensure all electrical connections are made by a qualified electrician and comply with local codes.
- Water Safety: Never enter the water while the fountain is operating or connected to power. Keep children and pets away from the fountain during operation.
- Proper Grounding: The fountain must be properly grounded to prevent electric shock. Do not use extension cords unless specifically rated for outdoor, submersible use and properly grounded.
- Minimum Pond Depth: A minimum pond depth of 34 inches is required for safe and effective operation.
- Handling: Use caution when handling the fountain components. The unit can be heavy.
Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:
- Amherst Fountain Motor Unit (1 HP, 230V)
- Float Platform
- Nozzle Assembly (Majestic three-tier pattern)
- 100 ft. 12-gauge Submersible Power Cord
- Stainless Steel Screen/Filter Basket
- Mounting Hardware and Ropes (for anchoring)

Setup and Installation
- Unpacking and Inspection: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage. Contact customer support immediately if any parts are missing or damaged.
- Nozzle Assembly: Attach the nozzle assembly to the top of the motor unit. Ensure it is securely fastened according to the provided hardware.
- Float Attachment: Position the motor unit within the float platform. Secure the motor unit to the float using the designated hardware.
- Filter Basket Installation: Attach the stainless steel screen/filter basket to the bottom of the motor unit. This prevents debris from entering the pump.
- Power Cord Management: Ensure the 100 ft. submersible power cord is free of kinks or damage.
- Deployment: Carefully place the assembled fountain into the pond. Ensure the pond depth is at least 34 inches. The fountain should float freely and be level.
- Anchoring: Use the provided ropes to anchor the fountain to the pond bank. This prevents the fountain from drifting. Adjust rope length to maintain a central and stable position.
- Electrical Connection: Route the power cord to a properly grounded 230V outdoor electrical outlet or junction box. A qualified electrician should perform the final electrical connection to ensure compliance with all local electrical codes and safety standards. Ensure a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is in place for electrical safety.

Operating Instructions
- Initial Startup: Once the fountain is properly installed and electrically connected, turn on the power at the circuit breaker. The fountain should begin operating immediately, producing its three-tier water display.
- Observation: Observe the fountain for proper operation. The water pattern should be consistent, reaching heights of over 35 feet with a side jet spray pattern of 40 feet in diameter.
- Timer Use (Optional): For automated operation, connect the fountain to an outdoor-rated timer (not included). Follow the timer's instructions for setting desired operating schedules.
- Winter Operation: The Scott Aerator Amherst Fountain is designed for year-round use and does not need to be removed from the water in freezing temperatures. Its operation helps to keep an area of the pond open, aiding in oxygen transfer.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your fountain.
- Disconnect Power: ALWAYS disconnect power to the fountain at the circuit breaker before performing any maintenance.
- Filter Basket Cleaning: Periodically inspect and clean the stainless steel filter basket to remove accumulated debris (leaves, algae, etc.). A clogged filter can reduce performance and strain the motor.
- Nozzle Cleaning: If the water pattern appears weak or uneven, the nozzle may be partially clogged. Carefully remove the nozzle and clean any obstructions.
- Motor Inspection: Annually, inspect the motor unit and power cord for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Winter Care: As the fountain is designed for winter operation, no special winterization is required for the unit itself. However, ensure the power supply remains protected from winter elements.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Fountain does not start | No power; tripped GFCI/breaker; damaged cord/motor | Check power supply; reset GFCI/breaker; inspect cord for damage (disconnect power first); contact support if motor issue suspected. |
| Weak or uneven water pattern | Clogged filter basket; clogged nozzle; low voltage | Clean filter basket; clean nozzle; verify proper 230V supply. |
| Fountain drifts | Improper anchoring | Adjust or re-secure anchoring ropes. |
| Excessive noise | Debris in pump; motor issue | Disconnect power and check for debris in the pump intake; contact support if noise persists. |
If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Scott Aerator customer support.
