3. Installation

  1. Remove the old alarm unit from its mounting bracket.
  2. Attach the new mounting bracket (included) to the electrical box on the ceiling or wall. Ensure the bracket is securely fastened.
  3. Connect the wiring harness: Black to Black (Line), White to White (Neutral), and Orange to Orange (Interconnect). If your existing wiring uses different colors for interconnect, refer to the alarm's specific wiring diagram.
  4. Plug the wiring harness into the back of the SMICO100-AC alarm unit.
  5. Insert the 9V battery into the battery compartment. Ensure the battery is properly seated.
  6. Align the alarm unit with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks securely into place.
  7. Restore power to the circuit.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Initial Power-Up

Upon restoring power, the alarm will perform a self-test. A green LED indicator should illuminate, signifying normal operation. If the alarm chirps or sounds continuously, refer to the troubleshooting section.

For optimal protection, install combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home, including basements, and inside every bedroom. Additionally, place alarms in hallways outside sleeping areas.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Regular Testing

Test your alarm weekly by pressing the Test/Silence button. This ensures the unit is functioning correctly.

6.2 Battery Replacement

Replace the 9V battery at least once a year, or immediately when the alarm chirps every minute (indicating a low battery). To replace, open the battery drawer, remove the old battery, insert a new 9V alkaline battery, and close the drawer.

6.3 Cleaning

Clean your alarm monthly to remove dust and debris. Use a soft brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently vacuum the alarm's vents. Do not use water, cleaners, or solvents.

6.4 Unit Replacement

Alarms have a limited lifespan. Replace your First Alert SMICO100-AC alarm at least every 10 years from the date of manufacture. The manufacture date is printed on the back of the alarm.
