Setup and Initial Preparation

Before first use, or if readings become inaccurate, calibration is necessary. Ensure you have purified water for cleaning the probe between steps.

  1. Remove the tester from its packaging.
  2. Prepare 3 cups of 250mL clean water and 1 cup of purified water for rinsing.
  3. Pour each pH buffer powder packet (4.00, 7.00, 10.01) into separate cups of 250mL clean water and stir evenly until dissolved.
  4. Ensure the protective cover is removed from the electrode.

Calibration Procedures

3. Salt/EC/TDS Calibration

The device is factory calibrated for TDS/EC/Salt. Re-calibration is generally not needed unless accuracy issues arise. Use the provided 12.88mS/cm and 111.8mS/cm solutions.

  1. Turn on the tester. Press the MODE/CAL button repeatedly to switch to EC mode (µS/cm will display).
  2. Clean the probe with purified water and immerse it in the 12.88mS/cm solution.
  3. Wait for the value to stabilize. Long press the MODE/CAL button for 5 seconds and release. "CAL" will display on the screen.
  4. The 12.88 value will flash 3 times, indicating successful 12.88mS/cm calibration.
  5. Clean the probe with purified water and wipe off excess water.
  6. Immerse the probe in the 111.8mS/cm solution. Wait for the value to stabilize. Long press the MODE/CAL button for 5 seconds and release. "CAL" will display on the screen.
  7. The 111.8 value will flash 3 times, indicating successful 111.8mS/cm calibration.
  8. Clean the probe with purified water, wipe off excess water.
  9. Turn off the tester and put on the protective cover.

Note: Once EC calibration is done, Salt and TDS calibration are also completed automatically.

Operating Instructions

After calibration, the YINMIK YK-2CL is ready for use. Follow these general steps for taking measurements:

  1. Turn on the device using the ON/OFF button.
  2. Press the MODE/CAL button to cycle through the different measurement modes (pH, Chlorine, Salt, ORP, TDS, EC, Temperature) until the desired mode is displayed.
  3. Insert the electrode into the water sample you wish to test. Ensure the electrode is fully submerged.
  4. Wait for the reading to stabilize on the display. For chlorine, readings typically stabilize within 5 seconds.
  5. Record the measurement. You can press the HOLD/TEMP button to freeze the reading on the screen for easier recording. Press it again to release.
  6. After testing, clean the probe with purified water and wipe off any excess water before turning off the device and replacing the protective cover.

Specific Applications:

  • Pool & SPA Water Testing: Accurately measure pH, residual chlorine, and ORP. Ideal pH range for pools is 7.2-7.8, and chlorine 1-3ppm. ORP should be between +650 to +750mV.

Maintenance

  • Always clean the electrode with purified water after each use to prevent contamination and ensure accurate future readings.
  • Wipe off excess water from the probe gently with a clean cloth or tissue.
  • Replace the protective cap after use. The cap contains a sponge with electrode protection liquid; ensure this sponge remains moist to prevent electrode oxidation and prolong its lifespan.
  • Store the tester in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Inaccurate or inconsistent readings
  • Probe not clean
  • Improper calibration
  • Electrode dry or damaged
  • Low battery
  • Clean the probe thoroughly with purified water.
  • Perform a full calibration for all parameters (pH, ORP, EC/TDS/Salt) as per instructions.
  • Ensure the protective cap's sponge is moist; if not, rehydrate with electrode protection liquid or purified water. If damaged, consider replacing the electrode or device.
  • Replace batteries.
Device does not turn on
  • Dead batteries
  • Device malfunction
  • Replace batteries.
  • Contact customer support if new batteries do not resolve the issue.
Difficulty switching modes or calibrating
  • Incorrect button press duration
  • User unfamiliarity with controls
  • Ensure you are long-pressing the MODE/CAL button for 5 seconds for calibration, and short-pressing for mode changes.
