Setup
Charging the Device
Before initial use, fully charge the internal Lithium Ion battery. Connect the supplied USB Type-C cable to the device's USB port and to a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port. The Battery LED will indicate charging status.
Initial Power On
To power on the device, press and hold the multi-function switch until the screen illuminates. To power off, repeat the action.
Connecting Antennas/Cables
Connect the appropriate RF cable or antenna to either the HIGH or LOW input port depending on the frequency range you intend to measure or generate. Use the provided SMA Female to Female Connector if needed for specific connections.
Operating Instructions
Touch Screen Operation
The TinySA features a 2.8-inch resistive touch screen. You can interact with the interface using your finger, the provided touchscreen pen, or a touch plectrum.

Spectrum Analyzer Mode
The device functions as a spectrum analyzer with two distinct input ranges:
- MF/HF/VHF Input (LOW): 0.1MHz to 350MHz.
- UHF Input (HIGH): 240MHz to 960MHz.
Switchable resolution bandpass filters are available for both ranges, between 2.6kHz and 640kHz. The color display shows up to 290 scan points, covering the full low or high frequency range.

Signal Generator Mode
When not in spectrum analyzer mode, the TinySA can operate as a signal generator:
- MF/HF/VHF Sinus Output: 0.1MHz to 350MHz.
- UHF Square Wave Output: 240MHz to 960MHz.

PC Control
The TinySA can be connected to a PC via USB to function as a PC-controlled spectrum analyzer. The USB interface utilizes the Serial over USB (CDC) protocol. A wide range of commands can be invoked over the serial interface for measurements and internal settings adjustments.
- Windows: The necessary driver will install automatically upon connection.
- Linux: The driver is built into the kernel.
PC control software allows for scanning with up to 30,000 measurement points, exceeding the standalone display limit.

Calibration
The TinySA includes a built-in calibration signal generator for automatic self-test and low input calibration. For accurate calibration, ensure the HIGH and LOW input ports are connected together using the supplied jumper cable during the self-test procedure. Failure to do so may result in incorrect calibration.
Maintenance
Firmware Updates
The firmware of the TinySA can be updated by the user. For new versions of the firmware and instructions, please contact the seller for the download link and guidance.
ESD Protection
The device is engineered with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection, contributing to a higher antistatic level and extended service life. Always handle the device with care to prevent damage from static electricity.

Troubleshooting
This section addresses common questions and issues that may arise during the use of your TinySA Spectrum Analyzer.
- Limited Scan Points in Standalone Mode: In standalone operation, the display is limited to a maximum of 290 scan points, even with a large span and low Resolution Bandwidth (RBW). When connected to a PC, the number of measurement points becomes unlimited, with Windows control programs supporting up to 30,000 points.
- Visible Modulation in Zero-Span Mode: If unexplained interference or modulation is visible in zero-span mode with a constant level input signal, it may be due to the input signal being very close to the zero-span center frequency. This can cause +/- 1 dB variations in the detected level. To mitigate this, try offsetting the zero-span center frequency by 1/4 of the RBW.
- Consolidation of Additional Measurements: The displayed measurement represents the maximum of all additional measurements. This ensures that the level of a signal falling within only one measurement point is correctly displayed.
- Inspecting SSB Modulation: Due to the minimum RBW of 2.7 kHz, it is not possible to examine fine details within a 2.7 kHz-wide SSB signal. With careful setup, it may be possible to check alternate sideband rejection or observe carrier rejection.
- Reduced Sensitivity Below 0.1 MHz: The sensitivity of the device starts to reduce below 0.1 MHz.
- Recommendations Below 1 MHz: Below 1 MHz, it is recommended to disable the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and potentially enable the Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) to achieve the best measurement quality.
