6. Setup Guide
Follow these steps to set up your Karlak AI-4 mixer.

Figure 6.1: Connection Diagram
6.1 Power Connection
- Connect the provided power cable to the DC 5V micro USB port on the mixer.
- Plug the power adapter into a suitable electrical outlet. The POWER indicator will illuminate.
- Alternatively, the mixer can be powered by a power bank or a computer's USB port using a compatible USB cable.
6.2 Connecting Microphones and Instruments
- For microphones or instruments with XLR or 1/4" TRS connectors, use the MIC/LINE inputs (1-2).
- If using a condenser microphone requiring phantom power, ensure the microphone is connected, then activate the +48V Phantom Power Switch.
- For line-level stereo sources (e.g., keyboards, media players), use the RCA or TRS stereo input jacks.
6.3 Connecting Output Devices
- Connect your main speakers or amplifier to the MAIN Output (L/R) using TRS cables.
- For recording, connect a recording device to the REC Output (L/R) using RCA cables.
- Plug your headphones into the Headphone Output (3.5mm jack) for monitoring.
6.4 Connecting to a Computer/Smartphone (USB/BT)
- USB/TF Card: Insert a USB flash drive or TF card containing MP3 audio files into the respective slot.
- Bluetooth: On the MP3 Digital Player, press the MODE button until 'BT' is displayed. On your smartphone or Bluetooth-enabled device, search for 'BT' and pair with the mixer.
7. Operating Instructions
7.1 Basic Operation
- Before powering on, ensure all GAIN and volume knobs are set to their minimum positions.
- Power on the mixer.
- Gradually increase the GAIN knob for each active input channel until the SIG indicator lights consistently, and the PEAK indicator flashes only occasionally during the loudest parts of the signal.
- Adjust the MAIN volume knob to achieve the desired output level for your speakers.
- Adjust the PHONES knob for comfortable headphone monitoring.
7.2 Adjusting Input Levels and Tone
- GAIN: Use this knob to set the initial input level for each microphone or instrument. Proper gain staging is crucial to avoid distortion.
- HIGH: Turn clockwise to boost treble frequencies, counter-clockwise to cut them.
- LOW: Turn clockwise to boost bass frequencies, counter-clockwise to cut them.
7.3 Using Phantom Power
If you are using a condenser microphone, press the +48V Phantom Power Switch. The corresponding indicator will light up. Ensure dynamic microphones or other devices not requiring phantom power are not connected when phantom power is active, or ensure they are compatible.
7.4 MP3 Player Operation (USB/TF Card, Bluetooth)
- USB/TF Card: Insert your storage device. Use the Play/Pause, Next, and Previous buttons to control playback.
- Bluetooth: After pairing (see Section 6.4), use your smartphone to control playback. The mixer's MP3 player controls may also function for basic playback control.
- Input Selection: Use the ST/USB Input Signal Switch to route the audio from the MP3 player (USB/TF/BT) to channels 3/4.
7.5 Applying Effects (DELAY, REPEAT)
The mixer features a built-in reverb effect.
- Use the EFF knobs on individual channels to send a portion of that channel's signal to the effect processor.
- Adjust the DELAY knob to control the time between the original sound and its first echo.
- Adjust the REPEAT knob to control how many times the echo repeats.
8. Maintenance
8.1 Cleaning
To clean the mixer, disconnect it from the power source. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents, as they may damage the finish.
8.2 Storage
When not in use for extended periods, store the mixer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Protect it from dust and moisture.
