1. Safety Information

Always read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before operating this sandblasting cabinet. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, respiratory protection, and gloves, during operation.
  • Ensure the work area is well-ventilated to prevent the accumulation of dust and abrasive particles.
  • Disconnect the air supply and power before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Use only recommended abrasive media. Do not use silica sand without proper respiratory protection.
  • Keep children and bystanders away from the operating area.

2. Setup and Assembly

The MOTORHOT 25 Gallon Portable Air Sandblasting Cabinet requires assembly. Follow these general steps for proper setup.

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging. Verify all components listed in the product manual are present.
  2. Assemble Cabinet Structure: Follow the provided diagrams to assemble the main cabinet body. Ensure all screws and fasteners are securely tightened.
  3. Install Viewing Window: Attach the plexiglass viewing window. Apply sealant (RTV gasket sealant is recommended) around all seams and gaps to ensure a dust-tight seal, preventing media leakage and maintaining visibility.
  4. Install Gloves and Blasting Gun: Secure the integrated gloves into the cabinet ports. Connect the blasting gun and its hoses according to the instructions.
  5. Connect Air Compressor: Attach your air compressor to the cabinet's air inlet. The cabinet operates with an air compressor delivery of 40-80 PSI / 5 CFM. Ensure all air connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  6. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter for the internal fluorescent lamp. Ensure the wiring for the light is protected from abrasive media; consider adding foam or a similar barrier around the wire entry point to prevent media ingress.
  7. Dust Collector Port: Connect a dust collection system to the designated port to maintain a clear view and a cleaner workspace. A wet/dry vacuum can be used for small particles.

3. Operating Instructions

Once assembled and connected, the sandblasting cabinet is ready for operation.

  1. Load Abrasive Media: Open the cabinet lid and pour your chosen abrasive media into the hopper. The cabinet supports various media such as glass beads, silicon carbide, and walnut shells, holding up to 33 pounds.
  2. Place Workpiece: Position the item to be blasted inside the cabinet. Close the lid securely.
  3. Activate Lighting: Turn on the internal fluorescent lamp using the external switch for improved visibility.
  4. Insert Hands: Place your hands into the integrated gloves.
  5. Begin Blasting: With the air compressor running and supplying 40-80 PSI, aim the blasting gun at the workpiece and activate the trigger. Move the gun steadily to achieve uniform surface treatment.
  6. Monitor Progress: Observe the blasting process through the plexiglass viewing window. The built-in exhaust system helps maintain clear visibility.
  7. Finish Blasting: Release the blasting gun trigger. Turn off the air supply and internal light. Allow dust to settle before opening the cabinet.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your sandblasting cabinet.

  • Clean Viewing Window: Regularly clean the plexiglass viewing window to maintain clear visibility. Remove any protective film as needed.
  • Check Seals: Inspect all sealing strips and applied sealant periodically for wear or damage. Replace or reapply sealant as necessary to prevent media leakage.
  • Nozzle Replacement: The blasting gun nozzles (4-7 mm) will wear over time. Replace them when performance degrades.
  • Media Management: Periodically empty and sift the abrasive media to remove contaminants and ensure consistent blasting performance.
  • Dust Collection System: Clean or replace filters in your dust collection system regularly to maintain efficient dust removal.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the interior and exterior of the cabinet clean. Wipe down surfaces to prevent rust and corrosion, especially on the powder-coated steel.

5. Troubleshooting

Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Low blasting pressure or inconsistent media flowInsufficient air supply; clogged nozzle; media clumping due to moisture; pickup tube too long.Ensure air compressor meets 40-80 PSI / 5 CFM. Replace worn nozzle. Use an air dryer to remove moisture from air supply. Check and adjust the length of the media pickup tube if it's touching the bottom of the hopper.
Poor visibility inside cabinetDust accumulation; dirty viewing window; light not working.Ensure dust collection system is operating effectively. Clean the plexiglass viewing window. Check light bulb and power connection.
Media leaking from cabinetWorn or improperly sealed seams/gaskets.Inspect all seals and seams. Reapply RTV sealant or replace worn sealing strips as needed.
Light wires exposed to mediaInadequate protection at wire entry point.Add a protective barrier, such as a piece of foam, around the light wire entry point to shield it from abrasive media.
