Setup

1. Battery Installation

To install the 1800mAh battery:

  1. Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the battery upwards until it clicks into place.
  3. Ensure the battery is securely fastened. The radio includes an added fixing screw to ensure firmness.

2. Antenna Installation

Screw the high-gain antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

3. Charging the Battery

The UV-17 radio supports convenient USB-C charging.

4. Headset Connection

If your package includes an earpiece/headset, connect it to the 2pin K Jack on the side of the radio.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

Rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise to turn the radio on. Continue rotating clockwise to increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and turn the radio off.

2. Channel Selection and Frequency Input

The UV-17 supports 999 channels.

3. Tri-Band Operation

The BAOFENG UV-17 operates across multiple frequency bands, including UHF (420-450MHz), VHF (144-148MHz), and Amateur bands, along with FM radio reception. This tri-band capability provides versatility for various communication needs.

4. Frequency Copy Function

The UV-17 features a wireless frequency copy function, allowing direct programming of frequencies from one radio to another without a computer or programming cable.

5. PTT (Push-to-Talk) Button

Press and hold the PTT button on the side of the radio to transmit your voice. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and listen for a response.

6. NOAA Weather Alert

The UV-17 includes a NOAA function, providing access to 10 NOAA weather forecast channels. This feature allows users to receive weather warnings, which can be useful for outdoor activities and planning.

7. VOX Mode

VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) mode allows for hands-free transmission. When activated, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice, eliminating the need to press the PTT button. Adjust VOX sensitivity in the menu.

8. CTCSS/DCS

CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digital Coded Squelch) are sub-audible tones used to filter out unwanted communications. When set, your radio will only receive transmissions that include the matching tone.

9. Flashlight Function

Press the dedicated Flashlight Button on the side of the radio to turn the built-in flashlight on or off. This feature provides illumination in low-light conditions.
