2. Setup and Initial Operation

2.1. Winding the Watch

Your Rado Captain Cook Automatic watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. While it winds itself through the motion of your wrist, it is recommended to manually wind the watch if it has stopped or if you have not worn it for an extended period.

  1. Unscrew the crown (if it is a screw-down crown) by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 1.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up a sufficient power reserve to start the watch.
  3. Push the crown back in and screw it down clockwise to ensure water resistance.

2.2. Setting the Time and Date

To ensure accurate timekeeping, follow these steps to set the time and date:

  1. Unscrew the crown (if applicable) and pull it out to position 2 (first click) to set the date. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement.
  2. Pull the crown out further to position 3 (second click) to set the time. The seconds hand will stop. Turn the crown to move the hour and minute hands to the correct time. Ensure you differentiate between AM and PM when setting the time, especially if the date changes at noon instead of midnight.
  3. Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into position 1 and screw it down clockwise firmly to maintain water resistance.

2.3. Changing Straps with EasyClip System

The EasyClip system allows for quick and tool-free strap changes. Locate the small lever or pin on the underside of the bracelet near the lugs. Slide this lever to release the spring bar and detach the bracelet. To attach a new strap, align the spring bar with the lug holes and slide the lever to secure it.

3. Operating Your Watch

3.1. Automatic Movement

The Rado R763 automatic movement powers your watch. It is designed to be highly accurate, exceeding standard requirements. When worn regularly, the movement of your wrist keeps the watch wound. If the watch is not worn for approximately 80 hours (its maximum power reserve), it will stop and require manual winding or wearing to restart.

3.2. Water Resistance

This watch is water resistant to 30 bar (300 meters / 1000 feet). This rating makes it suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and recreational diving.Important: Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water. Do not operate the crown or pushers while the watch is submerged or wet.

3.3. Super-LumiNova® Display

The hands and indexes on your watch dial are coated with white Super-LumiNova®, a luminous material that absorbs light and glows in low-light conditions, providing excellent visibility. The intensity and duration of the glow depend on the amount of light absorbed.

4. Maintenance and Care

4.1. Cleaning Your Watch

To maintain the appearance of your Rado watch:

  • For the stainless steel case and bracelet, use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away dirt and grime. A mild soap solution can be used for stubborn dirt, followed by rinsing with clean water and thorough drying.
  • The sapphire crystal can be cleaned with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, or ultrasonic cleaners, as these can damage the watch's finish or internal components.

4.2. General Care Tips

  • Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) or sudden temperature changes.
  • Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields, which can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
  • Have your watch serviced by an authorized Rado service center every 3-5 years to ensure optimal performance and water resistance.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1. Watch Not Running

  • Insufficient Power Reserve: If the watch has stopped, it may need to be manually wound. Refer to Section 2.1 for winding instructions. Wear the watch regularly to keep the automatic movement wound.
  • Crown Position: Ensure the crown is fully pushed in and screwed down. If it's pulled out, the watch will not run.

5.2. Date Not Changing Correctly

  • Time Setting: Ensure the time is set correctly, differentiating between AM and PM. If the date changes at noon, the watch is set 12 hours off.
  • Date Setting Window: Avoid setting the date manually between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this is when the date change mechanism is engaged and can be damaged.

For any issues not resolved by these steps, please contact an authorized Rado service center.
