4. Setup

To set up your EasiBBQ griddle insert:

  1. Ensure your grill is clean and cool.
  2. Carefully remove the existing cooking grates from your Weber grill.
  3. Place the EasiBBQ Full-Size Griddle Insert directly into the grill, ensuring it sits securely on the grill's supports.
  4. Initial Seasoning: Before first use, it is recommended to heat and oil the griddle 1-2 times for optimal results. Apply a thin layer of high smoke point cooking oil (e.g., canola oil) to the griddle surface, heat the griddle to a medium-high temperature for about 15-20 minutes until it smokes, then let it cool. Repeat this process. This helps create a non-stick surface and protects the carbon steel.

5. Operating Instructions

The EasiBBQ griddle is designed to provide a large, even cooking surface. Its placement closer to the fire source allows for quicker heating and consistent temperatures necessary for various cooking styles.

  • Preheating: Turn on your grill burners to the desired heat setting. Allow the griddle to preheat thoroughly for 10-15 minutes to achieve an even cooking temperature across the entire surface.
  • Cooking: Once preheated, add a small amount of cooking oil or fat to the griddle surface before placing food. The large cooking area (17.4" x 22.6") is ideal for cooking multiple items simultaneously, such as steaks, pasta, vegetables, potatoes, stir-fries, pancakes, and eggs.
  • Grease Management: The griddle features a grease system designed to prevent flare-ups and direct excess grease. Position the griddle with the drain slot towards the back of the grill to allow grease to flow into your grill's existing grease management system.

6. Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your EasiBBQ griddle and ensure continued performance.

  • Cleaning After Use: For best results, clean the griddle while it is still warm. Scrape off any food residue with a griddle scraper or spatula. Wipe the surface with a wet paper towel or washcloth. The included silicone oven mitts (rated up to 446℉/230℃) allow for safe handling during this process without waiting for the griddle to cool completely.
  • Seasoning Maintenance: After cleaning, apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the griddle surface to maintain its seasoning and prevent rust.
  • Storage: Ensure the griddle is completely dry before storing. Store in a dry place to prevent rust. Some users prefer to store it in a new trash bag to protect it from moisture and dust.
  • Dishwasher Safety: This griddle is not dishwasher safe. Hand wash only.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common questions and issues you might encounter.

  • Material and Coating: The EasiBBQ griddle is made of carbon steel. While it may appear to have a non-stick coating, its non-stick properties are primarily developed through proper seasoning. It is crucial to follow the initial seasoning instructions and regular maintenance to build and maintain this surface. Avoid using abrasive tools that could damage the seasoned layer.
  • Grease Draining Issues: If you experience difficulty with grease draining, ensure the griddle is positioned correctly with the drain slot aligned with your grill's grease collection system. The raised edge near the drain slot is designed to prevent food from falling off but may require a spatula to guide thicker grease towards the opening.
  • Uneven Heating: Ensure your grill burners are clean and functioning correctly. Allow sufficient preheating time for the griddle to reach a uniform temperature across its surface.
