3. Setup and Installation

The DualSense Edge controller is designed for easy module replacement. No specialized tools are typically required beyond what comes with the controller or standard household items.

3.1 Safety Precautions

  • Ensure the DualSense Edge controller is powered off and disconnected from any charging cables or devices before beginning the replacement process.
  • Handle the stick modules and controller components with care to avoid damage.
  • Do not force components during removal or installation.

3.2 Installation Steps

  1. Open the Controller Front Cover: Locate the release button on the back of your DualSense Edge controller. Press this button and gently lift the glossy black front cover of the controller to remove it.
  2. Identify the Stick Module: With the front cover removed, you will see the two stick modules. Each module is secured by a small lever.
  3. Release the Old Module: Flip the small lever located next to the stick module you wish to replace. This will unlock the module.
  4. Remove the Old Module: Gently pull the old stick module straight up and out of its slot.
  5. Prepare the New Module: If necessary, attach the desired stick cap to the new Vanreed DualSense Edge Stick Module. The stick caps are interchangeable and can be easily pulled off and pushed onto the module's shaft.Vanreed DualSense Edge Stick Module with detached stick cap

  7. Secure the New Module: Flip the small lever back into its locked position to secure the new module.
  8. Reattach the Front Cover: Carefully place the glossy black front cover back onto the controller, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

4. Operating

After installing the new stick module, it is recommended to perform a calibration and test to ensure optimal performance.

4.1 Initial Test

  • Connect your DualSense Edge controller to your PlayStation 5 console.
  • Navigate to the controller settings on your PS5.
  • Access the 'Custom Profiles' section for the DualSense Edge controller.
  • Select a profile and then choose 'Stick Sensitivity/Deadzone'.
  • Move the newly installed joystick through its full range of motion to observe its response on the screen. Adjust deadzone settings if necessary to achieve desired responsiveness.

4.2 In-Game Testing

Launch a game and test the joystick's performance in various scenarios to confirm that movement and aiming are precise and free from drift or erratic behavior.

5. Maintenance

Proper care can extend the lifespan of your stick modules.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean around the base of the joystick with a soft, dry cloth to prevent dust and debris buildup. Avoid using liquid cleaners directly on the module.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the controller in a clean, dry environment to protect the modules from excessive dust or physical impact.
  • Handling: Avoid applying excessive force or twisting the joystick beyond its natural range of motion, as this can cause internal damage.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after installing the Vanreed DualSense Edge Stick Module, refer to the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Module Not Recognized / No Input:
    • Ensure the module is fully seated in its slot and the locking lever is engaged.
    • Remove and re-insert the module to confirm proper connection.
    • Verify that the controller's front cover is correctly reattached.
  • Persistent Stick Drift:
    • Perform a stick calibration through the PlayStation 5 controller settings (as described in Section 4.1).
    • Check for any debris around the base of the joystick that might be obstructing its movement.
    • If the issue persists, the module may be faulty. Contact Vanreed support for assistance.
