Setup
1. Assembly
- Attach the Search Coil: Secure the Raptor11 DD search coil to the lower shaft using the provided bolt and washers. Ensure it is firmly attached but allows for slight pivot.
- Connect the Coil Cable: Wrap the search coil cable securely around the lower and middle shafts, then plug the connector into the control box port. Ensure the connection is tight to prevent water ingress.
- Assemble the Shaft: The Q35 features a 3-part collapsible shaft. Extend the shaft sections and secure them using the click Camlocks. Adjust the length to a comfortable operating position.
- Adjust the Armrest: Position the armrest for comfortable support during use.
2. Charging the Battery
The Q35 is equipped with a 3000 mAh built-in Li-Po battery.
- Connect the magnetic USB charging cable to the charging port on the control box.
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port.
- The display will indicate charging status. A full charge provides up to 20 hours of operation.
- Ensure the charging port is clean and dry before connecting the cable.
3. Wireless Headphone Pairing
The Quest Q35 comes with Quest Wirefree Lite wireless headphones.
- Turn on the Q35 detector and the wireless headphones.
- The detector and headphones should automatically pair. If not, refer to the headphone manual for specific pairing instructions.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off

2. Understanding the Display
The LCD display provides crucial information during operation:
- Target ID (VDI): Numerical value from 1 to 99 indicating the probable type of metal.
- Depth Indicator: Estimates the depth of the detected target.
- Battery Level: Shows remaining battery charge.
- Search Mode: Displays the currently selected detection mode (e.g., Park, Field, Beach, Gold).
- Frequency Indicator: Shows the active operating frequency (5 kHz, 13 kHz, 21 kHz).
- Volume Level: Indicates audio output volume.
- Iron Discrimination: Settings related to ignoring iron targets.
3. Selecting Search Frequency
The Q35 allows you to change the search frequency to optimize detection for different targets:
- 5 kHz: Recommended for larger, deeper buried objects.
- 13 kHz: A versatile all-around frequency suitable for general coin hunting and most search locations.
- 21 kHz: Ideal for detecting small jewelry, tiny relics, or small gold nuggets.
Use the frequency adjustment buttons on the control panel to cycle through the available frequencies. Frequency shift options are also available to avoid interference.
4. Search Modes
The Q35 offers various pre-set search modes for different environments:
- Park Mode: Optimized for areas with high trash, like parks.
- Field Mode: General purpose mode for open fields.
- Beach Mode: Designed for wet sand and saltwater environments.
- Gold Mode: Enhanced sensitivity for small gold targets.
Select the appropriate mode using the mode selection buttons.
5. Pinpoint Function
The Pinpoint function helps to precisely locate the target before digging.
- Once a target is detected, press the Pinpoint button.
- Slowly move the coil over the target area. The detector will emit a continuous tone, increasing in pitch and volume as you center the coil over the target.
6. Iron Discrimination and Volume
Adjust these settings to ignore unwanted iron signals and control the volume of iron responses. Refer to the on-screen menu for specific adjustments.
7. Vibration Function
The Q35 includes a vibration function, ideal for underwater searching or for users with impaired hearing. Activate this feature through the settings menu.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in wet or dirty conditions, clean the detector. The Q35 is fully waterproof, so you can rinse it under running water. Ensure the charging port is dry before charging.
- Storage: Store the detector in a cool, dry place. If storing for extended periods, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%) to preserve battery health.
- Coil Protection: Keep the coil cover on the search coil to protect it from scratches and abrasions.
- Cable Care: Avoid sharp bends or kinks in the coil cable. Ensure the cable is securely wrapped around the shaft to prevent snagging.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Battery drained; Power button not pressed correctly. | Charge the battery; Press and hold the power button firmly. |
| No sound from headphones | Headphones not paired; Headphone battery low; Volume too low. | Re-pair headphones; Charge headphones; Increase volume on detector. |
| Erratic signals/False signals | Electromagnetic interference; Mineralized ground; Coil cable loose. | Use frequency shift; Perform ground balance; Check coil cable connection. |
| Poor depth detection | Incorrect frequency for target; Ground balance needed; Low sensitivity setting. | Adjust frequency; Perform ground balance; Increase sensitivity. |
