1. Introduction

The YouPro MC-292 DC0 is a versatile wireless shutter remote control system designed for various Nikon camera models, as well as Fujifilm S5 PRO, S3 PRO, and Kodak DCS-14N. This system operates on a 2.4 GHz FSK wireless channel, providing reliable communication up to 100 meters. It functions as both a wireless and wired timer, offering multiple shooting modes including single shot, slow continuous, fast continuous, BULB, time-lapse, and timed plan shooting.

The remote features an LCD screen for clear display of channel information, and with 32 available channels, it helps prevent signal interference. Its compact and lightweight design ensures portability and ease of use for extended photography sessions.

2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

Before proceeding, ensure all components are present:

  • YouPro MC-292 DC0 Transmitter (Remote Control)
  • YouPro MC-292 DC0 Receiver
  • Shutter Connection Cable (specific to your camera model)
  • User Manual (this document)

2.2 Battery Installation

Both the transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) require 2x AAA batteries each. Ensure correct polarity when inserting batteries.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of both the transmitter and receiver.
  2. Slide or lift the cover to open.
  3. Insert 2x AAA batteries into each unit, matching the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2.3 Connecting the Receiver to Your Camera

Use the appropriate shutter connection cable for your camera model.

  1. Ensure your camera is turned off.
  2. Connect one end of the shutter connection cable to the receiver's port.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to your camera's remote control terminal. This port is typically located on the side of the camera body.
  4. Mount the receiver onto your camera's hot shoe or attach it to a strap using the integrated clip for stability.

2.4 Setting Channels

The MC-292 DC0 offers 32 channels to prevent interference. Ensure both the transmitter and receiver are set to the same channel.

  1. Turn on both the transmitter and receiver.
  2. On the transmitter, press the "CH" button to cycle through available channels.
  3. On the receiver, use the "CH-" and "CH+" buttons to select the desired channel.
  4. Verify that the channel displayed on both units' LCD screens matches.

3. Operation

3.1 Basic Shutter Release

After successful setup, you can use the remote for basic shutter control.

  • Single Shot: Press the main shutter button on the transmitter halfway to focus, then fully to take a single photo.
  • Continuous Shooting: Depending on your camera's settings, holding the shutter button fully down may trigger continuous shooting (slow or fast).
  • BULB Mode: For long exposures, set your camera to BULB mode. Press the shutter button on the remote once to open the shutter, and press it again to close it.

3.2 Timer Functions

The MC-292 DC0 offers advanced timer functions for various photography techniques.

  • Delayed Shooting: Set a delay before the shutter fires.
  • Interval Shooting: Program the remote to take photos at specific intervals, ideal for time-lapse photography.
  • Exposure Count: Specify the number of exposures to be taken.
  • Timed Plan Shooting: Combine delay, interval, and exposure count for complex shooting sequences.

Refer to the transmitter's LCD and buttons (e.g., timer icon, +/- buttons) to navigate and set these parameters. The LCD will display current settings such as delay time, exposure time, interval time, and number of shots.

3.3 Wired Operation

The transmitter can also be used as a wired remote control by connecting it directly to the camera using the shutter connection cable. This is useful when wireless functionality is not required or to conserve battery life in the receiver.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Battery Replacement

Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the LCD screen or when the units fail to power on. Refer to section 2.2 for battery installation instructions.

  • Transmitter (TX) battery life: Approximately 1000 hours standby.
  • Receiver (RX) battery life: Approximately 300 hours standby.

4.2 Cleaning and Storage

  • Wipe the units with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Store the remote control and receiver in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Remove batteries if the units will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Remote not firing shutter:
    • Ensure both transmitter and receiver are powered on.
    • Verify that both units are set to the same channel.
    • Check battery levels in both units.
    • Ensure the shutter connection cable is securely connected to both the receiver and the camera.
    • Confirm the camera's remote control terminal is clean and free of debris.
    • Test the remote in wired mode to isolate the issue (if the wired mode works, the wireless connection might be the problem).
  • Interference:
    • If experiencing erratic behavior, try changing the channel on both the transmitter and receiver to an unused channel.
    • Avoid operating near other 2.4 GHz wireless devices if possible.
  • Limited Range:
    • Ensure there are no major obstructions (e.g., thick walls, large metal objects) between the transmitter and receiver.
    • Check battery levels.
