The Sunbeam SDK-011A is a cordless 1.7 litre stainless steel kettle designed for efficient water boiling. It features a concealed heating element for safety and easy cleaning, a hinged lid for convenient filling, and a large water window for clear visibility of water levels. The kettle also includes an automatic shut-off function and boil-dry protection for enhanced safety.
Setup
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the kettle and its power base from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or disposal.
- First Use Cleaning: Before first use, fill the kettle with clean water to the MAX level. Boil the water, then discard it. Repeat this process two to three times to remove any manufacturing residues.
- Placement: Place the power base on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure the power cord is not dangling or in contact with hot surfaces.
- Connecting to Power: Plug the power cord into a suitable wall outlet (230 Volts).
Operating Instructions
- Filling the Kettle: Open the hinged lid and fill the kettle with the desired amount of water. Ensure the water level is between the MIN (0.5L) and MAX (1.7L) markings on the water level indicator. Do not overfill or underfill.
- Placing on Base: Place the kettle securely onto its cordless power base.
- Switching On: Press the ON/OFF switch located near the handle downwards. An indicator light will illuminate, signifying that the kettle is heating.
- Automatic Shut-off: The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled. The indicator light will extinguish, and the switch will return to the UP position.
- Pouring: Carefully lift the kettle from the base and pour the hot water. The heat-resistant handle ensures safe handling.
- Re-boiling: If you need to re-boil, wait a few moments for the automatic switch to reset before pressing it down again.
Note: The kettle features boil-dry protection. If the kettle is accidentally switched on without sufficient water, it will automatically switch off to prevent damage. Allow it to cool down before refilling and operating again.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Exterior
- Always unplug the kettle from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they may scratch the stainless steel finish.
- Never immerse the kettle or its power base in water or any other liquid.
Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) may build up inside the kettle, especially in hard water areas. Regular descaling will help maintain performance and extend the life of your kettle.
- Fill the kettle with a mixture of one part white vinegar and two parts water. Alternatively, use a commercial descaling solution following the product's instructions.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and then let it stand for at least 30 minutes, or longer for heavy scale build-up.
- Empty the kettle and rinse thoroughly with fresh water several times to remove any residue and vinegar smell.
- If necessary, repeat the process until all scale is removed.
Storage
When not in use, store the kettle and its power base in a dry, safe place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
