5.4 Iced Coffee Brewing Tips

Iced coffee brewing steps and tip table

Figure 5.4: Iced Coffee Brewing Guide. This image provides a visual guide for brewing iced coffee, including steps for adding ice, coffee grounds, and brewing, along with a table detailing recommended ice, water, and ground coffee ratios for various cup sizes.

Iced Coffee Making Tip (Ground Coffee)
Ice (oz) Water (oz) Grounds (g)
6 6 8
8 8 10
10 10 13
12 12 16
14 14 18

Note: The ice cube and water ratio is approximately 1:1 for optimal results. For K-Cup pods, use 6oz water for best flavor when brewing over ice.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning.
  • Removable Parts: The water reservoir, reusable ground coffee basket, K-Cup pod holder, and drip tray should be washed regularly with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.
  • Brewing Area: Periodically clean the area where the K-Cup pod or ground basket sits to remove any coffee residue.

6.2 Descaling (Self-Cleaning Function)

Descaling is essential to remove mineral deposits that can build up over time, ensuring optimal performance and coffee taste. It is recommended to descale monthly.

  1. Empty the water reservoir.
  2. Fill the reservoir with a descaling solution (e.g., white vinegar or a commercial descaling agent mixed with water according to product instructions).
  3. Place a large mug or container on the drip tray to collect the descaling solution.
  4. Press and hold both the HOT and OVER ICE buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to initiate the deep clean process.
  5. The machine will run a descaling cycle. Once complete, discard the solution.
  6. Rinse the water reservoir thoroughly and fill it with fresh water.
  7. Run 2-3 full brewing cycles with fresh water to rinse out any remaining descaling solution. Discard the water after each cycle.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Coffee maker does not turn on. Not plugged in; power outlet issue. Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet.
Coffee does not brew or brews slowly. Insufficient water in reservoir; clogged needle; descaling needed. Fill water reservoir to appropriate level. Clean the needle with a paper clip. Perform a descaling cycle.
Coffee tastes weak or watery. Too much water for coffee grounds/pod; coffee grounds too coarse; descaling needed. Use less water or more coffee grounds/stronger pod. Ensure coffee grounds are suitable for drip brewing. Descale the machine.
Water leaks from the machine. Water reservoir not seated correctly; overfilled reservoir; damaged component. Ensure the water reservoir is properly seated. Do not overfill. If leaking persists, contact customer support.
Buttons flash blue continuously. Lid not properly closed. Ensure the brewing lid is fully closed and latched.
