Safety Instructions

It is imperative to read and understand all safety instructions prior to using your LiPo battery pack. Failure to follow these guidelines can result in fire, personal injury, and property damage. LiPo batteries require careful handling and adherence to specific safety protocols.

  • Charging: Always use a charger specifically designed for LiPo batteries that supports balance charging. Never charge unattended. Charge in a fireproof area, away from flammable materials.
  • Discharging: Do not over-discharge the battery. Stop using the battery if you notice a significant drop in power or if the voltage falls below 3.0V per cell under load.
  • Storage: Store LiPo batteries at room temperature (15-25°C or 59-77°F) and at a storage voltage of approximately 3.8V per cell. Store in a fireproof bag or container.
  • Physical Damage: Do not puncture, drop, or subject the battery to excessive impact. If the battery becomes swollen, damaged, or leaks, discontinue use immediately and dispose of it safely.
  • Temperature: Avoid exposing the battery to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or heat sources. Do not charge or discharge outside the recommended temperature range.
  • Disposal: Dispose of damaged or end-of-life LiPo batteries according to local regulations. Never dispose of them in regular trash.

It also lists various voltage configurations and their corresponding watt-hours. The battery has thick red and black power wires terminating in a yellow XT60 connector, and a smaller white JST-XH balance plug with thin red, white, and black wires.

Setup

Initial Inspection

Upon receiving your RoaringTop LiPo battery, carefully inspect it for any signs of physical damage, such as swelling, punctures, or frayed wires. Do not use the battery if any damage is observed.

Charging the Battery

Before first use, and after each discharge, the battery must be charged. Use a dedicated LiPo balance charger. Connect the main XT60 discharge plug to the charger's output and the JST-XH balance plug to the charger's balance port. Set the charger to the correct cell count (3S) and capacity (2200mAh) for a LiPo battery. Always charge at a rate of 1C or less (2.2A for this 2200mAh battery) unless the battery specifications explicitly state a higher safe charge rate.

Connecting to Your Device

Ensure your RC vehicle or device is powered off before connecting the battery. Connect the XT60 plug from the battery to the corresponding XT60 connector on your device. For applications requiring balance monitoring or charging, ensure the JST-XH balance plug is also connected to the appropriate port on your charger or monitoring device.

Operating

Usage Guidelines

This 25C discharge rate battery is designed for applications requiring consistent power delivery. Avoid exceeding the continuous discharge rate of 25C (55A for this 2200mAh battery) to prevent damage and ensure longevity. Monitor battery temperature during operation; if the battery becomes excessively hot, discontinue use and allow it to cool before further operation or charging.

Compatibility

The RoaringTop 2200mAh 3S 11.1V LiPo battery with XT60 plug is compatible with a wide range of RC models. This includes, but is not limited to, 800MM Warbirds, EPP 3D planes, small heli QAV180/210, Walkera E22, 450 Quad QAV250, DJI Phantom, Quadcopters, and DJI Phantom FC40. Compatibility is primarily determined by matching the battery's voltage (11.1V) and connector type (XT60) with your device's requirements.

Maintenance

Storage

For optimal battery life, store the LiPo battery at a "storage charge" voltage of approximately 3.8V per cell (11.4V for a 3S battery). Store in a cool, dry place, ideally within a fireproof LiPo bag or container, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing fully charged or fully discharged for extended periods.

Care and Handling

Handle the battery with care to avoid physical damage. Do not bend, twist, or apply excessive pressure to the battery pack. Regularly inspect the wires and connectors for wear or damage. Keep the connectors clean and free of debris to ensure a good electrical connection.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Battery not charging:

Ensure the charger settings match the battery specifications (LiPo, 3S, 2200mAh). Check all connections (main and balance plugs) for secure contact. Verify the charger is functioning correctly.

  • Reduced performance or short run time:

This may indicate an aging battery or one that has been over-discharged. Ensure the battery is fully charged before use. Check for proper balance across cells. If performance continues to degrade, the battery may need replacement.

  • Battery swelling:

Swelling is a sign of internal damage and indicates the battery is unsafe to use. Immediately discontinue use, place the battery in a fireproof container, and dispose of it safely according to local regulations. Do not attempt to charge or use a swollen battery.

  • Overheating during use:

Excessive heat can be caused by over-discharging, drawing too much current, or internal damage. Ensure your application's current draw is within the battery's continuous discharge rating. Allow the battery to cool completely before handling or recharging.
