1. Introduction

The Orac Decor FX400 DecoFix Ultra Adhesive is a high-performance, white polymer-based adhesive specifically designed for creating strong and durable joints between mouldings. This cartridge contains 9.13 oz (270 ml) of adhesive, suitable for various interior and exterior applications.

This product is an improved formulation that replaces the FX-200 joint adhesive, offering enhanced bonding capabilities for your decorative projects.

2. Safety Information

Always adhere to the following safety guidelines when using the DecoFix Ultra Adhesive:

• Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhalation of fumes.
• Skin and Eye Contact: Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. Wear appropriate protective gloves and eye protection.
• First Aid: In case of skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water. In case of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water for several minutes and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
• Ingestion: Do not ingest. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention.
• Storage: Keep out of reach of children and pets. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

3. Setup and Preparation

Proper preparation ensures optimal adhesion and a professional finish.

1. Surface Preparation: Ensure that all surfaces where the adhesive will be applied are clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, oil, or any loose particles. For best results, surfaces should be structurally sound.
2. Cartridge Preparation: Cut the tip of the cartridge nozzle at an angle, creating an opening appropriate for the desired bead size. A smaller opening will produce a finer bead, while a larger opening will produce a thicker bead.
3. Loading the Caulk Gun: Insert the prepared DecoFix Ultra cartridge into a standard caulk gun. Ensure it is securely seated.
4. Test Application: Before applying to your main project, it is recommended to perform a small test application on a scrap piece of material to ensure proper flow and bead size.

4. Application Instructions

Follow these steps for effective application of Orac Decor FX400 DecoFix Ultra Adhesive:

1. Apply Adhesive: Apply a sufficient amount of DecoFix Ultra adhesive directly into the joint area of the mouldings. Ensure even coverage along the entire length of the joint.
2. Join Profiles: Immediately after applying the adhesive, firmly push the moulding profiles together. Apply consistent pressure to ensure a tight and secure bond.
3. Remove Excess: While the adhesive is still wet, use a painter's knife or spatula to carefully remove any excess glue that squeezes out from the joint. Clean the knife with soapy water.
4. Clean-up: Use a damp cloth with soapy water to wipe away any remaining adhesive residue from the moulding surface before it hardens.
5. Finishing (Optional): If needed, for minor imperfections or gaps, use Orac Decor DecoFiller FL300. Once dry, the filled areas can be finished with sandpaper for a smooth surface.
6. Painting: The adhesive can be painted over after a minimum drying time of 24 hours. Ensure the adhesive is fully cured before applying paint.

To maintain the quality and effectiveness of your DecoFix Ultra Adhesive:

• Storage: Store the cartridge in its original packaging in a cool, dry place, ideally between 5°C and 25°C (41°F and 77°F). Avoid freezing temperatures and direct sunlight.
• After Use: After each use, ensure the nozzle is properly sealed or capped to prevent the adhesive from drying out and hardening inside the cartridge.
• Shelf Life: Refer to the product packaging for specific shelf life information.

6. Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:

• Adhesive Not Curing:
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the application area.
  • Verify that the ambient temperature is within the recommended range for curing (typically above 5°C).
  • Check the product's expiry date on the cartridge.
• Poor Adhesion:
  • Re-check surface preparation: surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants.
  • Ensure a sufficient amount of adhesive was applied to the joint.
  • Apply firm and consistent pressure when joining the profiles.
• Difficulty Removing Excess Adhesive:
  • Excess adhesive should be removed immediately with a painter's knife and soapy water before it begins to harden.
  • Once hardened, mechanical removal (e.g., scraping) may be required, taking care not to damage the moulding.
