Setup

Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the Retro Buddy.

  1. Connect the supplied USB charging cable to the DC 5V port on the side of the radio (refer to Image 3).
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port.
  3. The charging indicator light (if present, check product for specific behavior) will illuminate during charging.
  4. Allow approximately 2-3 hours for a full charge. Disconnect the cable once charging is complete.

Attaching the Wrist Band

Thread the included wrist band through the designated loop on the radio for secure carrying.

Operating Instructions

Power On/Off and Volume Control

  • To turn the radio ON, rotate the Volume knob (refer to Image 3) clockwise until you hear a click.
  • To adjust the volume, continue rotating the knob clockwise to increase, or counter-clockwise to decrease.
  • To turn the radio OFF, rotate the Volume knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.

Radio Operation (FM/AM/SW)

  1. Select Band: Use the Mode Selector switch on the left side (refer to Image 4) to choose between FM, AM, or SW bands.
  2. Extend Antenna: For optimal reception, fully extend the telescopic antenna located on the rear of the unit (refer to Image 5).
  3. Tune Station: Rotate the Analog Tuning Knob on the front right side (refer to Image 1) to scan for radio stations. The frequency display will indicate the current tuning position.
  4. Adjust Position: For better reception, you may need to slightly adjust the position of the radio or the antenna.

Bluetooth Operation

  1. Enter Bluetooth Mode: Set the Mode Selector switch (Image 4) to the "USB / Bluetooth" position. The radio will announce "Bluetooth Mode" or a similar audio cue, and an indicator light may flash.
  2. Pairing: On your smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled device, search for available Bluetooth devices. Select "NB RETRO BUDDY" (or similar name) from the list.
  3. Connection: Once paired, the radio will confirm the connection with an audio cue. You can now play audio from your device through the Retro Buddy.
  4. Playback Control: Use the Play/Pause, Next, and Previous buttons on the top panel (refer to Image 2) to control media playback.

USB / TF Card Playback

  1. Insert Media: Insert a USB drive into the USB port or a TF (MicroSD) card into the TF card slot on the right side of the radio (refer to Image 3). Ensure the media contains compatible audio files (e.g., MP3).
  2. Select Mode: Set the Mode Selector switch (Image 4) to the "USB / Bluetooth" position. The radio should automatically detect and begin playing audio from the inserted media. If not, press the "Mode" button (Image 2) to cycle through available input sources until USB or TF card mode is active.
  3. Playback Control: Use the Play/Pause, Next, and Previous buttons on the top panel (refer to Image 2) to control media playback.

Torch Light Operation

  • To turn the torch light ON, slide the Torch Light switch on the rear panel (refer to Image 5) to the "ON" position.
  • To turn the torch light OFF, slide the switch to the "OFF" position.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the radio. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the unit regularly, even if not in constant use.
  • Antenna: Handle the telescopic antenna gently to prevent bending or breakage. Retract it when not in use.

Troubleshooting
