4. Installation and Setup
- Safety First: Before beginning installation, ensure the power to the area where the smoke alarm will be installed is turned off at the circuit breaker.

- Battery Installation: Insert the included 9V alkaline battery into the battery compartment on the back of the alarm. Ensure correct polarity. If there is a battery activation tab, pull it out to activate the battery.
- Attach Alarm: Align the smoke alarm with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks securely into place.
- Restore Power: Turn on power at the circuit breaker. The green power indicator light on the alarm should illuminate, indicating it is receiving AC power.
- Test Alarm: Press and hold the 'Test/Silence' button on the alarm for a few seconds until the alarm sounds. All interconnected alarms should also sound. Release the button to silence the alarm. Test weekly to ensure proper function.
5. Operating Instructions
- Power Indicator: A green LED light on the alarm indicates that the unit is receiving AC power and the battery backup is active.
- Alarm Indicator: When smoke is detected, the alarm will emit a loud siren, and a red LED will flash rapidly. In an interconnected system, all compatible alarms will sound. The specific unit that detected the smoke will have its red LED flashing more frequently to help identify the source.
- Silence Feature: To temporarily silence a nuisance alarm (e.g., from cooking smoke), press the 'Test/Silence' button. The alarm will silence for approximately 10 minutes before resetting. If smoke is still present after the silence period, the alarm will reactivate.
6. Maintenance
- Regular Testing: Test your smoke alarm weekly by pressing the 'Test/Silence' button to ensure it is functioning correctly.
- Cleaning: Dust and debris can affect alarm performance. Gently vacuum the alarm's cover and vents monthly using a soft brush attachment. Do not paint the alarm.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V alkaline battery annually, or immediately if the low battery chirp sounds.
- Unit Replacement: Smoke alarms have a limited lifespan. Replace the entire unit at least every 10 years from the date of manufacture. The manufacture date is located on the back of the alarm.

7. Troubleshooting
- False Alarms: If the alarm sounds without apparent smoke, ensure the area is clear of steam, cooking fumes, or excessive dust. Use the silence feature if it's a nuisance alarm.
- Intermittent Chirping: A single chirp every 60 seconds usually indicates a low battery. Replace the battery immediately.
- No Power: If the green power indicator is off, check the circuit breaker and ensure the alarm is properly connected to the hardwire.
- Alarm Fails to Test: If the alarm does not sound when the test button is pressed, ensure the battery is correctly installed and fully charged, and that the unit is receiving AC power. If the issue persists, the unit may need to be replaced.
