5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
Locate the power switch at the rear of the main unit and toggle it to the 'ON' position to power on the station. Toggle to 'OFF' to power down.
5.2 Temperature Adjustment
Use the main rotary knob on the front panel to adjust the desired soldering temperature. The temperature range is 194~842°F (90~450°C). The LCD will display both the set temperature and the actual tip temperature.

Figure 7: Adjusting the temperature using the rotary knob.
5.3 Preset Channels
The YIHUA 982D features 4 preset channels (CH1-CH4) for quick recall of frequently used temperatures:
- CH1: 350°C / 662°F (for sensitive components)
- CH2: 380°C / 716°F (for resistors/capacitors/MOSFETs)
- CH3: 400°C / 752°F (for ground-plane joints)
- CH4: Save your preferred regularly used temperature.
Press the corresponding channel button (CH1, CH2, CH3, CH4) to activate a preset temperature. To save a custom temperature to CH4, set the desired temperature, then press and hold the CH4 button until the setting is confirmed.

Figure 8: Utilize the four preset channels for quick temperature selection.
5.4 Automatic Temperature Calibration
This function ensures the actual soldering tip temperature remains consistent. To perform auto-calibration, place the soldering iron in its holder and press the 'AUTO CAL' button. The unit will automatically calibrate the tip temperature. No external temperature measurement tool is required.

Figure 9: The automatic calibration feature ensures temperature accuracy.
5.5 Sleep Mode and Automatic Shutdown
When the soldering iron is placed in its holder, the unit automatically enters sleep mode to extend tip lifespan. If the unit remains unused for a set period (configurable), the automatic shutdown feature will cut power to the handpiece, preventing it from being left on unattended.

Figure 10: Sleep mode activates when the iron is in its holder, conserving tip life.
5.6 Other Functions
- °C-°F Conversion: Switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units.
- Password Locking: Secure your settings with a password to prevent unauthorized changes.
- Buzzer Feedback: Provides audible alerts for certain operations or status changes.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Tip Cleaning and Care
Regularly clean your soldering tips using the brass wool tip cleaner or the damp cleaning sponge to remove excess solder and oxidation. Always keep the tip coated with solder when not in use to prevent oxidation and prolong its lifespan.

Figure 11: Utilize the brass wool and cleaning sponge for effective tip maintenance.

Figure 12: Always keep the soldering tip coated with solder to avoid oxidation.
6.2 Cartridge Replacement
The station includes a convenient tip-change/storage groove. To replace a cartridge, carefully remove the current one from the handpiece and insert the new cartridge into the slot for easy handling before re-inserting it into the handpiece.
6.3 Removable Protective Mesh
The unit features a removable protective mesh at the bottom. This mesh can be removed for cleaning to ensure proper ventilation and prevent dust buildup.
6.4 Replaceable Thermocouple
The auto-calibration feature relies on a replaceable thermocouple. If calibration issues arise, the thermocouple can be replaced. Refer to the installation video for guidance on accessing and replacing this component.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your YIHUA 982D Precision Soldering Station, please refer to the following general troubleshooting advice:
- No Power: Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the unit and a working power outlet. Check the power switch at the rear of the unit.
- Temperature Inaccuracy: Perform an automatic temperature calibration. Ensure the soldering tip is correctly installed and clean. If issues persist, the replaceable thermocouple may need inspection or replacement.
- Poor Soldering Performance: Check if the soldering tip is clean and properly tinned. Ensure the correct temperature is set for the type of solder and components being used. Verify the heating element is fully inserted into the handpiece.
- Handpiece Not Responding: Ensure the handpiece cable is securely connected to the main unit.
