Setup
1. Attaching the Neck Strap
Attach the ClicLoc neoprene carrying strap to the binoculars. Ensure both ends are securely fastened to prevent accidental drops.
2. Adjusting Interpupillary Distance
Hold the binoculars up to your eyes and look through them. Adjust the distance between the two barrels by moving them closer or further apart until you see a single, clear circular field of view. This ensures proper alignment with your eyes.
3. Diopter Adjustment and Focusing
The Steiner Commander features an auto-focus system, meaning you typically do not need to re-focus for different distances once set. However, individual diopter adjustment is crucial for initial setup:
- Close your right eye and look through the left eyepiece at a distant object. Rotate the left diopter ring until the image is sharp.
- Close your left eye and look through the right eyepiece at the same distant object. Rotate the right diopter ring until the image is sharp.
- Once both diopters are set, the binoculars should remain in focus for objects from approximately 20 meters to infinity without further adjustment.

Operating Instructions
1. General Observation
Once the binoculars are set up for your eyes, simply raise them to observe distant objects. The 7x magnification provides a stable image, ideal for marine environments. The large 50mm objective lenses gather ample light, ensuring bright and clear images even in low-light conditions like dawn or dusk.
2. Using the Integrated Compass
The Marine Commander features an integrated HD compass for navigation. The compass is visible in the lower part of the field of view. To use it:
- Hold the binoculars steady and align the object you wish to take a bearing from with the vertical reticle line.
- Read the bearing from the compass scale at the bottom of the view.
- The compass is illuminated for use in low light. Activate the illumination by pressing the button located near the compass housing.

The Ergoflex eyecups can be adapted for comfortable viewing with or without glasses. They can be used ergonomically adapted, cylindrically, or folded down completely for eyeglass wearers to ensure the full field of view.

Maintenance
1. Cleaning the Lenses
To clean the lenses, first use a soft brush or compressed air to remove any loose dust or debris. Then, use a clean microfiber cloth specifically designed for optics, along with a small amount of lens cleaning fluid. Gently wipe the lenses in a circular motion. Avoid using abrasive materials or excessive pressure, as this can scratch the coatings.
2. Cleaning the Body
The rubber armor and body of the binoculars can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, a mild soap solution can be used, but ensure no water or cleaning solution enters the optical system. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
3. Waterproof and Fog-proof Care
The binoculars are waterproof up to 10 meters and fog-proof due to nitrogen pressure filling. After exposure to saltwater, rinse the binoculars with fresh water and dry them completely to prevent salt buildup and corrosion. Do not attempt to open the binoculars, as this will compromise their waterproof and fog-proof integrity and void the warranty.

4. Storage
Store the binoculars in their hard case bag in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures, which can damage the optics and coatings. Ensure lens caps and the rain cover are in place to protect the lenses from dust and scratches.
Troubleshooting
1. Blurry Image
- Check Diopter Settings: Ensure both left and right diopter rings are correctly adjusted for your individual eyesight (refer to "Diopter Adjustment and Focusing" in the Setup section).
- Interpupillary Distance: Verify that the distance between the barrels is correctly set for your eyes to achieve a single, clear circular field of view.
- Lens Cleanliness: Dust, smudges, or moisture on the lenses can cause blurriness. Clean the lenses carefully as described in the Maintenance section.
2. Compass Not Working or Inaccurate
- Magnetic Interference: Ensure you are not near large metallic objects, strong magnetic fields, or electronic devices that could interfere with the compass reading.
- Battery (if applicable): If the compass illumination is not working, check if the battery needs replacement. Refer to the product packaging or Steiner website for battery type and replacement instructions.
3. Fogging Inside Lenses
While the binoculars are nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fogging, extreme temperature changes can sometimes cause temporary external condensation. If fogging occurs internally and persists, it may indicate a seal compromise. Do not attempt to open the binoculars; contact Steiner customer support.
