4.3 Installing the Blade

  1. Insert a blade into the blade holder.
  2. Adjust the blade tip exposure. The tip should be just barely visible, extending only enough to cut through the material without scoring the backing. Refer to Figure 3.6 for visual guidance.
  3. Secure the blade holder into the carriage of the plotter.

4.4 Software Installation and Driver Setup

  1. Install the Signmaster software using the provided CD or by downloading it from the URL specified on the activation card.
  2. Enter the software account activation code (PSN) when prompted.
  3. Connect the vinyl cutter to your computer using the USB or COMPIM cable.
  4. Install the necessary drivers. The Signmaster software installation typically includes driver setup. If not, drivers may be found on the provided media or the manufacturer's website.
  5. Verify successful connection and driver installation through your computer's device manager.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Loading Material

  1. Ensure the pinch rollers are lifted.
  2. Place the vinyl or other material onto the feed rollers, aligning it straight.
  3. Lower the pinch rollers to secure the material. Ensure the material is held firmly and evenly across the rollers to prevent deviation during cutting.

5.2 Adjusting Cutting Parameters

Use the digital control panel to set the cutting force and speed. These settings are crucial for achieving clean cuts without damaging the material backing.

  • Cutting Force: Adjust between 10-500g. Start with a lower force and increase gradually until the material is cut cleanly.
  • Cutting Speed: Adjust between 10-800mm/s. Slower speeds generally yield more precise cuts, especially for intricate designs.

Perform test cuts on scrap material to fine-tune these settings before starting your main project.

5.3 Sending a Cut Job

  1. Prepare your design in the Signmaster software.
  2. Ensure the design is correctly sized and positioned for your material.
  3. Select the appropriate cutting machine model in the software settings.
  4. Send the cut job from the software to the plotter.
  5. Monitor the cutting process. Use the emergency stop button if any issues arise.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the machine's exterior with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Remove any vinyl scraps or dust from the cutting area and around the rollers.
  • Clean the pinch rollers with a damp cloth to ensure proper material grip.

6.2 Blade Replacement

Replace blades when they become dull or damaged to maintain cutting precision. Refer to Section 4.3 for blade installation instructions.

6.3 Roller Inspection

Periodically inspect the pinch rollers and feed rollers for wear or damage. Worn rollers can lead to material deviation and inaccurate cuts.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Machine not powering on Power cable disconnected; Power switch off; Faulty power outlet Check power cable connection; Ensure power switch is on; Try a different outlet
Cuts are inaccurate or incomplete Incorrect blade depth; Dull blade; Incorrect cutting force/speed; Material not loaded straight; Loose pinch rollers Adjust blade depth; Replace blade; Adjust force/speed settings; Reload material ensuring it's straight; Ensure pinch rollers are securely lowered
Software not detecting machine USB/COMPIM cable disconnected; Driver not installed correctly; Incorrect port selected in software Check cable connections; Reinstall drivers; Verify port settings in Signmaster software
Material jams or slips Pinch rollers not engaged; Material loaded unevenly; Worn rollers Ensure pinch rollers are down; Reload material carefully; Inspect and replace worn rollers if necessary
