Before brewing coffee, perform a cleansing brew. Fill the reservoir with water. Place a large mug on the drip tray for single-serve or the carafe on the heating plate. Do not insert a K-Cup pod or add ground coffee. Press the brew button for either single-serve or carafe to run a cycle of plain hot water. Discard the hot water. Your coffee maker is now ready for use.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and taste. All removable parts are easy to clean.

Daily Cleaning

  • Wash the carafe, carafe lid, and K-Cup pod holder with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Wipe down the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.
  • Empty and clean the drip tray as needed.

Descaling

Over time, calcium deposits (scale) can build up in your coffee maker. Descale your brewer every 3 to 6 months, or more frequently if you have hard water. Refer to the full descaling instructions in the comprehensive user manual for detailed steps.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Keurig K-Duo Essentials coffee maker, consider the following common solutions:

  • No Power: Ensure the coffee maker is securely plugged into a grounded outlet. Check the circuit breaker.
  • Brew Not Starting: Verify the water reservoir is filled and properly seated. For K-Cup brewing, ensure the handle is fully lowered. For carafe brewing, ensure the carafe is correctly placed on the heating plate.
  • Weak Coffee: Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio. For K-Cups, try a smaller brew size. For ground coffee, use more coffee grounds or a finer grind. Ensure the brew basket and K-Cup holder are clean and free of clogs.
  • Water Leaking: Check that the water reservoir is properly seated and not overfilled. Inspect the reservoir for cracks.

For more complex issues, please refer to the complete troubleshooting guide in the full user manual or contact Keurig customer support.
